Sorry carves, how about this - Comparison test with: Holden Frontera (1999-), Jeep Grand Cherokee (1999-), Nissan Pathfinder Ti (1999-), Toyota Landcruiser Prado (1996-) and Mitsubishi Challenger (199:cool:. Unfortunately for you, the Explorer tested and the Cherokee tested are pretty crap on economy. Some don't care about the environment but a lot do.
new car report - mitsubishi challenger (199:cool: tested july 2000 - RACV

Hey Carves

Are you by any chance american or have a close connection to american, possibly lived or worked there?

Just curious :)

Cheers

Justin

Baaaahaaahaaa .... nah cant stand the buggers ... lol

Always owned Jap 4x4s till they priced themselves out of reality. Wanted a new swb 4x4 with a decent sized engine about 10yr ago ... Jeep was the only thing available ... Changed to to an XJ Cherokee for the leaf suspension and coz they are dirt cheap to buy and have 25yrs of parts available for them. Damn thing has been better than any jap one Ive owned ... except for a 47 series troopy - that was rig. ;)

Nothing wrong with acknowledging a mistake, doing some quick research and correcting it with a double check, anything to prove your lack of mechanical knowledge. Measure twice, cut once....Oh yeah, sorry about the Cherokee being so bad on fuel. Hope you have plenty of jerry cans.

Ohhhh .... this gets better and better.

Do you honestly believe that a fair test of vehicles for fuel consumption is between a bunch of vehicles with differing engine sizes from 3.0l to 4.0l.

If six cylinder is the only factor you can work your head around ..... lets toss in the 5.7l 6cyl Unimog and see what that does to the figures .....

Next time you go car shopping can I come with you .... I need a good laugh.

And what ever they get will perform the same for them as they performed in the test. Its called relativity.

Toyota Kluger is just one for you carves and for only $2K more than the Territory. How many more would you like?

A quote from Cars Guide Australia "Toyota knows that fuel thirst is a Territory's weakness and so the Kluger is more economical to run, by more than one litre per 100km".

Factory fuel figures or real usuage results ???

Righto Lowlux ... back to play... nicely ................ Had my carbon positive fun for the weekend.:D:cool::rolleyes:

I originally asked you what comparison you had made, to determine a Ford Explorer is thirsty ... and even offered some comparison needs for refererence.

Something besides a "hearsay" comment would have been good to support your comment but your response, was to provide a smaller vehicle with a smaller engine for comparison .... against a totally different vehicle. I'm still wondering whether your initial "thirsty" comment was even directed at the american made Ford Explorer ... since you managed to confuse it with the Aust. made Ford Territory in other posts.

The whole point of your "thirsty"comment is made even more ridiculous, when you consider that recently it was shown on T.V., that a Toyota Prius is not as economical as a V-8 BMW sports car. We wont take the circumstances into consideration as they wouldn't be relative huh ....

Your following posts then degraded into personal attacks on my current choice of vehicle. Typical behaviour for someone on the losing end of a discussion. Mind you ... it was amusing to note, ... that not only are you seemingly unaware of the differences between an Explorer and a Territory ... your basic vehicle knowledge is just as lacking when it comes to XJ Cherokees and WJ Grand Cherokees.

Unfortunately for you, the Explorer tested and the Cherokee tested are pretty crap on economy. Some don't care about the environment but a lot do.

Why unfortunately for me  ..... I dont own either of those two vehicles  As for the treehugging angle ... given the figures below ... I figure Im doing my bit for ecology while still having a vehicle capable of meeting my travel and towing needs. Previously, I had again done my bit for ecology, as buying a Jeep Wrangler is actually better than buying a Prius in regards to long term environmental issues.

Oh yeah, sorry about the Cherokee being so bad on fuel. Hope you have plenty of jerry cans.

Baaaahaaahaaa .... nah cant stand the buggers ... lol

Always owned Jap 4x4s till they priced themselves out of reality. Wanted a new swb 4x4 with a decent sized engine about 10yr ago ... Jeep Wrangler was the only thing available ... Changed to to an XJ Cherokee for the rearleaf suspension and coz they are dirt cheap to buy and have 25yrs of parts available for them. Damn thing has been better than any jap one Ive owned ... except for a 47 series troopy - that was a rig. ;)

To help you out a bit I added some green coloured additions to my post for better comprehension.

Anyway .... since your so keen on internet info

Choosing one of the vehicles you offered for comparison against a Ford Explorer... and my vehicle since you feel the need to belittle it ... I offer some NRMA data for your perusal. I hope that this time, you understand that fuel useage figures are dependant on a variety of factors - as even the RACV comparison you offered proved that.

"Powered by a 3.3 litre V6 SOHC engine with electronic multi-point fuel injection, the Pathfinder moves off the mark smartly although acceleration tapers off at higher revs" ... "Buyers should keep in mind that 4WDs are going to use more fuel than conventional vehicles with a similar engine size. The Pathfinder is competitive to other 4WDs of similar size and more economical than a Patrol. Expect to use 16.8 litres per 100km in the city and around14.6 litres per 100 km on highway cycle."

" The average fuel consumption of the Jeep Cherokee is 14.7 litres per 100 kilometres ............ With ample engine power, the automatic transmission doesn't compromise the off-road performance. "

BTW the fuel consumption rate above is for an old 1994 cherokee ... It was made more eco friendly with the models from '97 onwards ( the model I have ) as the fuel injection / intake system was upgraded, providing even better milage figures.

I dont need to prove you wrong about your "thirsty" statement ... As an Explorer compared against smaller vehicles with lesser engine capacities, as you choose to do ... makes you totally correct. ... In some vehicle reviews .... :D:p

"Happy Trails" ............... Carves

Its OK Pure Yobbo ... I'm getting out of the sandpit now......... :D:D

"I am looking mate"we don't need a suv to take us off road it will be a street car that can handle going over sticks on the road going over water and can take a hit from a roo or wallaby also as i said we have a 7 year old and a baby on the way so it has to fit a pram and stuff and have room to move.... O yer we don;t have a garage....lollllll..:D
