First 4wd

Looking to buy first 4wd for 9-12k in SEQ. Looking mainly at hilux's. They have around 280-350kms on them from the 1995-2005 models. Or a 2.5L navara d22 these have lower kms with 160-250 from the years 2006-2014. all these options have rwc standard mods (2 inch lift kit, 31's, snorkel and barwork). Some of these cars have good service history too. Would be open to many other Utes just haven't found any good examples of them in my price range. I dont mind occasionally replacing parts and working on them but just want a car I can buy and go camping and 4wd (not any extreme stuff) without much hassle. Also want it to be reliable and I dont care about on road driving.

At that age brand matters less than the ability to find a well loved version. If you don’t want to do extreme driving your budget is going to buy a better condition AWD like a forester etc and they are much easier to live with on the road. Just a thought.

That's a lot of km's, and bear in mind, it's not only the service history that counts, also consider the amount of those km's that were done off-road when it comes to potential structural fatigue and other wear issues - both cost and reliability. I'd want a comprehensive and independent mechanics report before buying something with that mileage. It could be more hassle than what it's worth.

As Cam04 suggested, perhaps a low kilometre AWD like a Subaru Forester would be a better all round choice, especially if you can get a later model manual tranny with high and low range.

U guys a probably right but I also want a car that I think is cool and stuff since I’ve had to work hard to save all my money and I’m willing to spend time working on it and spending more money (I’ve budgeted extra 3k and will keep earning more) to have a cooler car. Also forgot to mention that I will be towing a JetSki and a tinny and would like if I could take these with me if I went 4wd to Moreton for example.

You might find that a large proportion of those types of vehicles in SE QLD have already had their fair share of Beach and 4WD exposure
I would consider expanding your search radius as you may find a better vehicle for the money away from that area??
When I sold my Hilux the buyer flew down to me in Sydney from QLD and drove it back home

Just a thought, good luck with your search
