Engine Swap 4y - recommendations

Gday Guys,

Chasing recommendations for a motor swap into a 1989 Toyota 4runner. Seeking something with decent reliability and not an eye watering conversion cost. Looking to keep the auto Trans where possible.

Any advice is appreciated.

Given the space considerations I'd be looking at either a 1KD or an LS depending on your intentions and budget. The 1KD would be my personal pick for touring/4wding.

a lot. changing from petrol to diesel is a lot of work. the whole fuel system, electricals, even brakes/ booster/ vacuum will have to be modified. as well as the usual, exhaust, engine mounts, radiator, engine management computer, possibly the sump, gearbox/transmission bell-housing & torque converter.
a 3rzfe from a later hilux may be a simpler option, but still a fair bit of work, or there are kits to fit holden v6 in, also require a fair bit of work, and a diff ratio upgrade, , a 1uz would also require a diff upgrade but have plenty of power and will keek everything all toyota,

I have a hilux with a 1KD motor in it already that the body is shagged on so I have all the required parts. I think.
would a body swap be possible? Are the hilux and 4runner chassis the same dimensions?
my plan is to take two cars and make one decent one

I believe the body mounting points are different but a look and measure will tell you that. But considering you have all the parts already, thats half the battle. It will mean you can swap everything and modify what you have to fit. Some things will be easy, others will be a pita.
