I could see those screens rattle off those brackets if you 4wd or come across corrugations....

I bought one a good few years ago . It was garbage , I wanted it for GPS and it was putrid , the brand I bought was ELINZ which was supposed to be one of the more reputable cheapies , save your coin and buy a good brand with a warranty and after sales service .

It'll need a convertor to fit I suspect, but have a look at some of the Double DIN units.

I get a lot of my electrical bits from Ryda or their ebay store (nofrillssydney) and have been really pleased with their service. I thought that my head unit was broken, and contacted them 2 weeks out of warranty... they organised for it to be sent back as a warranty repair until I found my wiring and battery were at fault.

For what you were looking at paying for one of those Android ones, you could get this:
https://www.ryda.com.au/pioneer-avh-a205bt-bluetooth-dvd-multimedia-player-reverse-camera

Keep an eye on it on ebay for a 15-20% voucher and get it then...

I would buy an alpine tomorrow as it’s my go-to brand but my Jeep has a 1.5 Din hole. I can drop a $400 joying into that slot with a massive 10 inch screen hinges off the front and call it done.

Option two is spend around $250 on double din facia and supporting iso cables/adapters, buy a $1000 head unit and then cut the dash hole up to fit it .....not so appealing on this weekend toy.

Option 3 is single din with no multimedia function which is basically what it has now and that still requires the new facia and adapters.

Option 4 is using s standalone tablet which I have now and the crappy factory radio which is well crappy...I miss DAB and reverse camera.

On a Dailey driver the decision would be easier .

I use similar to your option 4. A 10 inch tablet for navigation and my phone for streaming music through the standard radio. The standard loudspeakers are ok. If I want better sound quality I'd replace the loudspeakers first. Not the radio.

For rear vision I installed one of those eBay lcd mirror replacement screens and rear camera. Later on I also installed a front camera so that I can check my wheel placement. The latter is wifi and works a treat. The system is now about 3 years old and still going strong. Next time I'll install all wireless though, a lot easier and no interference.

I've ordered rear view mirror replacement and reverse camera for car.
Will stick with tablet for navigation duties for now
Plan on doing a lot of travel and don't want to make it a target with big screens and steal me bling.

I installed a fairly expensive mirror type reverse camera for my grandad recently but I found it rubbish unless rather dark outside. Certainly not good for watching the tow bar as I approach the trailer either. Also if I buy 2 or 3 separate devices I’ll be better of buying a $1000 alpine anyway. The joying would do what I want but I don’t trust cheap stuff.

What was the issue with approaching the trailer?

I have the same double DIN android head unit in both my cars. I love them, especially for the money. Pretty sure they are Joying brand. The reverse cameras are a bit average but otherwise they seem to be able to work well.
I love having google maps with live traffic updates built into the car, and just generally having full android functionality. Youtube if you're desperate to hear a particular song, browser for researching stuff, OBD apps to see what your engine is upto/clear codes, etc etc.
They'll even integrate with your existing steering wheel controls. Obviously that wasnt a thing in '85 when my hilux was built, so i got some wireless ones and installed them in my aftermarket wheel.
I usually hotspot my phone to it for data on the run, but have toyed with the idea of a dedicated sim card in each for convenience.

For ~$250 delivered, they are pretty good value.

Going to have a serious look
The mirror camera is getting sent back
Doesn't fit the way I thought it would.
