Hi guys,

I am new to this forum & 4WD and just bought 2000 Disco II TD5. I am thinking to take the family 4wd close to our area and thinking of Otways/Lorne area.

Is anyone if possible can share a map or suggest map/book for a easy track with nice scenery in that area?

the ExploreOz web site has a good map on the area, order one express you'll have it in a day or 2, if you want easy just stay on the main roads you'll be fine if its wet dont go even easy rd there when wet can be hard as iv found out the hard way!!!! all in all good fun. i have'nt really done many easy tracks in that area mostly med or hard. try more towards beechforrst, easy trk i know are: halls ridge rd, aire crossing (awsome log bridge crossing looks great) holy water trk, sec trk, binns rd, old apollo bay rd. theres heaps ...
but like i said easy can turn hard with rain. also around forest there quite a few easy trks too, mostly main rds... i can jump back on tomorrow night with some more trk names if you'd like i know them just cant remeber all the names, but have been on most trks in the otways easy to hard.. just need to pull the map out to get names..

Hi dearot, I think this route might be possible in winter. The Mount Sabine road is pretty good for the run east to west from the Deans Marsh / Lorne Road. I did this last summer. The first part of the road is covered in dolomite and was quite firm. I think it narrowed a bit and became a little less solid as you go further west. You should ring Vic Parks to confirm the condition before heading off.

A nice side trip to Erskine Falls, and we also enjoyed a 30 minute walk from the camp ground at waypoint F to Lake Elizabeth. The Erskine Falls road was well constructed, with the dolomite covering. And I think the road down from Forrest to the Lake Elizabeth camp ground should be OK.

from:Stirling St to:Deans Marsh Lorne Rd to:Benwerrin Mount Sabine Rd to:Benwerrin Mount Sabine Rd to:Forrest Apollo Bay Rd to:-38.550045,143.745117 - Google Maps

This is the map I used. I thought it was quite good because it showed all services available along the tracks - camp grounds, toilets etc.

Have fun, Millsy.

just be awear tracks will be closed dont just have a book you need a map this area is always changeing with trk conditions and closers .... dont get cought out take a good map, and you'll be right if its wet be on aleart track conditions change in hours not days.... iv been there 5 or so tims on a big trips and found one time a trk that any 2wd could do next day it was only for your well set up 4x4's with lift and tyres, 1 day later it was stuffed.... never eva seen an area change so quickly, and have so many different trk and road closers, last time i was there a main rd was closed took 2 hour to get around and with out a well set up 4x4 you would nt have made it. if you have map you can at least turn around and take a diff. route. there'll always be a way, just how hard is the question.

if its dry there should nt be any problems...

good luck let us know how you go...

im hopeing to get up there after the trk closers and hit the area around wye and kennit river hard!!!...

Thanks for the reply guys...

So I need:
1. a good book
2. a good map

Is the track closure on Park Victoria a good reference? I am thinking to go the website a night before we go... or I need to check it a couple hours before ??
