easy to use and capable gps

Hi everyone.
I am looking for your advise on gps units. I have not had one before and am looking for an easy to use unit that is capable of doing all the basic functions.
I am looking to buy a handheld gps unit so I can record, share and download 4x4 tracks.
It will need to have an expandable memory slot, (i.e.. sd card etc.) so that i can record and save plenty of tracks.
Also as it will be my first gps I would like it to be able to do paperless geo caching and not cost $500
Any ideas? Your input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone

looking for similar myself, best choices probably garmin and magellan outdoor handhelds, have a look though the gpsoz site, they have them all, some come with extra 'adventure packs'

As mentioned above the garmin or magellan would be my first two choices. I run a garmin hcx vista, great gps and very easy to use.
If you are close to a store that sells both, ie. rays, anaconda or the like go in and quiz the guys and ask for demo's of both etc and wiegh up your options.
Have a look at both of thier websites for some info as well.

Finding the gps that is right for you is a hard decision, once you have studied a few you will know what you like.

Hiya

Ive tried both,Now Garmin Gps Topo maps are good...Magellan Topo maps are the best in my opinion, but,Theres always a but :)...There backup service is about the same as Warn Winch (Useless and basically not available)...Next Destination used to look after Magellan but there site has gone AWOL,not that they were of much use anyway...I use the Mag XL GPS and its been good track wise..Had it a few years now,I could update the map but there hasn't been any need so far..Always use a GPS in conjunction with a local map (Its just crazy not too,to rely on a GPS ONLY)..I use laminated Rooftop Maps..

Ive been looking at the Mud Map Apps and have been quite impressed.. Hopefully in time it will only get better...

Goodluck
