I wonder whether he gets hit with all the costs as we are well aware this area is closed to the public and yes as for the dogs well I dont like there chances as the river is probably still rising and you can nearly bet the car will be swept downstream further yet.

Stuff the car.I feel sorry for the dogs, they didn't put themselves in that situation.Wonder how the insurance company will react to his claim for the fourby. Some people only learn once their hip pocket is hit.

Yes as long as they cover offroad, check your Policy...Want to play Russian Roulette, drive down closed tracks or in closed off areas and no doubt they will look at the Parks websites etc etc....

It is hard to understand what they were thinking to attempt to drive across a raging creek like that, wonder if they walked it first? I highly doubt it.

Think I would remove that pic Digger....

Unfortunately the information that is available from DSE/Parks is pretty 'piss poor' in regard to the closures around Walhalla..... Grumpy has mentioned that the area is closed, but people still drive the area as they dont check what is a very inadequate website or they could reasonably assume there would be 'ROAD CLOSED' signs in place, which there are not.

Whilst there is really no excuse for anyone to be on these tracks, information is very basic at best. Before anyone is prosecuted I would think the relevant authorities need to be answerable, along with 4wd Vic, as to why there was not enough 'in your face' information publicised.... Was plenty of info/signage in regard to Harrietville etc, why not with Walhalla.?????.

Yep splashed all over the TV for at least the last 4 or 5 days warning people there could be up to 300 ml in the following days around Gippsland.

No excuse really

Not the sort of publicity our community needs, using our stretched resources for an act of stupidity.
Guess he may have justifiable reasons for attempting the crossing but geez they'd wanna be damn good reasons.

Will have to disagree with you on this one Allan, we were up there not long after the fires and there were heaps of signs, some on droppers others on trees then the next time we were up there some of the signs were thrown over the road edges droppers and all, Merringtons and Donnelly creek to name just two. There was also danger ribbon torn down or probably driven through. There were also road closed signs placed across the roads that were deliberatly moved so as you could drive around them.
I believe they had a big blitz up there over the long weekend but don't know the out come but was aware the Police and DSE had a combined effort and large fines were being imposed.

Grumpy, that might have been the case just after the fires, but a number of people have been up there recently & have said they saw absolutely nothing in regard to signage etc.

If they did have a big blitz last weekend, maybe the authorities should say they did & caught x number of vehicles driving closed tracks. Maybe also pass the info onto 4wd Vic who MIGHT decide to update their website..... Then the message might get through to the majority of 4wders.

PS: I am planning to head to Mt Selma in the next month or so; are the main roads open..... As I said early, information is very vague.
