Has any one wired their parkers to come on with the ignition
Son owns a dark Navara D40 and mum is worried about junior driving with no drl lights. Just returned from the auto elec who wants $150 to wire in the drl's plus the cost of them
Thought why not just wire the existing parkers into the ignition and be done with it as a simpler alternative?

Can be done with 2 diodes and an extra wire to your ignition. But as mentioned parkers not much use during the day. Just by a set of fleebay drl with controller, there not hard if they come with instructions

During parkers of an ignition fed relay is easy, fit quality LED (like Stedi) Parker bulbs and you're done.

You could also use a vsr but they would run for a while after shut down.

I think they're a good idea.

So if you hard wire "day time running lights" are you allowed to drive the vehicle legally at night with it's DRL lights still on best to check the legal side of that one first. It's like quite a few wankers these days insist on driving at night with fog lights on which is totally illegal unless the proper conditions are present. They think makes the more visible so it's safer for them but the reality is their blinding oncoming traffic creating a bigger hazard and most cops are to gutless or interested in booking them so their avoiding their duty.

Also the colour of your vehicle makes a difference my wife had a grey vehicle for 3 yrs and said people quite often pulled out in front of her so she drove with the lights on all the time just left them on auto.

Daytime running lights have rules regarding brightness at night and indicator controlled switching off etc. Running your parkers as drl is no problem as you are not restricted using them in the day and already use them at night. My one year old Renault van uses parkers as drl - they're not LED (this years model is led in the top spec like mine). Because they're not led they don't have any dimming of switching off functionality during turn signal operation. From memory even cars like vz commodores bad a factory "always on" headlight option for fleet buyers.

I don't think people run fogs to be seen - I think it's to look cool. It's less common now with so may cars already running drl. Cops probably have better things to do and bigger revenue fines to issue rather than waste countless hours handing out fog light fines.

I think from memory that the DRL should turn off over the park lights are turned on, fog lights don’t do this

Fog lights can’t be used during the day or night without their being fog.

and cops do hand out tickets for fog lights.
It’s blinding to other drivers. You having 4 headlights on instead of 2 so to speak.

Yeah I know about parking lights but the op also mentioned wiring in DRL and the cost minus lights just letting him know they may be illegal. I've spoken to lots of people up in the Mackay region most claim it's safer some say they want the extra light go figure that with how bright lights are these days and quite a few are just bone lazy haven't had anyone say their cool yet. They could make a fortune handing out fines on the peak downs hwy as one eg just sit in one spot and the money comes to you as most are to stupid to learn it takes multiple fines before they realize their in the wrong. Not as many bright people up here as there are bright lights.

Send the cops up this way to show the lazy ones up here what to do I have only seen an increase of fog lights being used over the past 20yrs. If they do have a blitz on them which I heard happened once they warn every one first so it has very little impact not real smart maybe it's the humidity.

Or just maybe the cops are run off their feet dealing with all the druggo miners and other dickhead drivers up in the Mackay region that they don’t have time for non-life threatening, trivial traffic infringements. Just saying :)
