Join a 4wd club, as you have to do driver ed before you can go on any decent trips with them, they will have a designated person who can teach you.

Firstly, I am in Hervey Bay, which is a long way from Sydney.

Secondly, confidence in you and your vehicle is what it is all about...

I'd recommend finding an accredited driver trainer, preferably one who has a background in teaching and training, rather than just in driving...

you want to gain confidence, this will only happen if you have confidence in the person instructing you, and if you feel comfortable with that person.

If you have a local club who can do that, then that is great. I am a big supporter of 4wd clubs, have been in them for a long time myself. (and do training for 3 clubs here locally). If not then look at specialist driver trainers, it's what we do for a living!

good luck

a accredited driving course is well worth the money, they can show you how to drive properly and saftley in a controlled enviroment. Most 4wd clubs, with a few exceptions, only show you the very basics, while a proper course will explain in a lot more detail, why they are showing you how to do something.
