For 30 bucks, you've got nothing to lose.

Some workshops have specialised equipment for DPF clean and regen - I don't know what they charge though.

There's another workshop option that doesn't just do the scan tool regen.
I believe the DPF is removed from the vehicle and treated in a special rig.

I got this for the captiva
Chemtech Diesel Power Turbo and DPF cleaner, and looks like working
Only one time dpf burner and it already 1500km (most short trip approx 10-30km) without doing the burning.
hopefully all good as shes getting old now 12yrs with lots of camping and outdoor

Doesn’t matter if you are using cleaner or not you still have to get it to regen. On your car that is over 60 kph and over 2000 rpm for 20 minutes. This info is freely available. A scan tool just mimics that but you can just lock out overdrive and go for a spin. There is no magic additive that circumvents that.

I was under the impression that the metals in a DPF eventually burn away and for the DPF to work properly it would have to be replaced after 12 years i wonder if there is much left inside???

Yeah, not for this little black duck. At 100 km/h the engine is doing a measly 1,250 rpm (1,500 with 4.5t of van on the back) - I don't think it's capable of 2,000 rpm except for a second or two before it changes up a gear.

Mind you, it's very rare that we know that the DPF is regenerating - only if it repeatedly tries in town and doesn't complete.

Shes will sitting on 1700-2000 at 60-70km
When the lights up do regen we usualy keep run till it finish. If not continue again next start. Not sure rpm other car has the ranger without dpf doing 70 sitting at 1500rpm

Same revs as most modern gearboxes. I tow in 5th TC locked for about 1650. 6th is same 1250 odd at 100 kph. I’ve never seen a DPF warning light. Those numbers I put up were Captiva specific to get it to regen.
