I spent some time investigating yesterday but do any of you Ozi gurus know if there has been a plug in developed to link waypoints in Ozi with Google earth? i know mapsource can do this but Ozi is my program of choice.

Yes. The latest Ozi has save to "Google Earth" which creates a file which then opens in Google Earth. You can see the file which is zipped that Ozi created. It isn't as nice as Mapsource with the integration, in fact there is no integration in Ozi to Google earth/maps that I can find.

I figured out a better way Brian. All I needed was the google earth.map file. Once that is downloaded you open it like any other map file and voila. You got google earth running within OziExplorer. Awsome, you can upload any track or waypoint you like into it. Use all the typical zoom functions etc.

I am trying to find out how many members on the forum use OxiExplorerPC or OziExplorerCE for trip planning or as moving map software.

Have PC and CE versions of Ozi. Also 3 Navmans running CE so quite popular here :p.

I use Ozi Explorer on a mounted tablet pc to maintain waypoints, tracks, points of interest, moving map etc.
I also use en route and mapsource with shonky maps, city navigator and oz top, I can run ozi explorer, mapsource and enroute simultaneously which can be handy.

I use Ozi PC on a netbook. Mainly for geocaching but also for search and rescue. I send teams out on searches with a GPS in their back pack then when they get back download the tracks to a map. Print that map give it to the Police. Evedance that you have been there so planning can be done. They love it. Also in the 4WD at night searching tracks you can know ecactly where you are on the map and if you have covered each track. Works very well for me.

I've been using Ozi for some time now and run it on a 7" gps for two reasons, 1. don't have to worry about damage to the lappy. 2. also have the option to run IGO8 when not offroad.
The beauty of that is that you can run any map you like on the gps, save tracks, easily switch data from google earth and back, and the ability to be able to use arial photo's from GE with moving map if you want to so you can see exactly where you are rather than looking at a raster map.
For vic maps in Ozi I use 'vic map 2005' these maps are fairly detailed but I have found many times where tracks are not. I would like to get a hold of some good maps to check out to see what is the best to buy. To compliment Ozi I also use a garmin handheld gps with tracks4australia, contours australia and shonkymaps installed.

Cheers

What GPS are you using?

G'day spottydog, it is just a cheapy from china with no brand name, but cause it runs windows 5.0 can run just about any program on it. (Not sure if I can post links on here or not?)
I also plug it in to the dvd player in the cruiser and it makes a great tv screen.

Spottydog, Here is the link to basically how and where I found this, I knew that this was the set up I wanted but at the time didn't know sfa about GPS.
Portable Car Navigation System

Although this is not the seller I bought mine from it is around the same price and the same unit but with a few extra's, some of them for a few more $$ will come with reversing camera too.
7" HD GPS CAR NAVIGATION SYSTEM+SPEAK STREET NAME AV IN (eBay item 220662809113 end time 30-Dec-10 09:19:28 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats

If you decide to go down that track and need any help just yell out. (by the look of your website you will know more than I do) I have set up a few of these for different guys now, when I got mine I had trouble (as you will read in the first link) we found that some vital information was missing from the unit, no wonder a newbie has trouble.

Cheers

Thanks Gone Bush.
The prices on this sort of stuff coming out of China is amazing.
I am definitely going to buy one of these and if I have any issues I will certainly take you up on your offer and seek some advice.
Cheers.
