The previous shaped Dmax, prior to mid 2012, had a 4.1 rear diff on the autos, the manuals ran a 3.7.

Thanks Tink I wounder if I should look at getting second hand front and rear just to get the crown wheel and pinon
I guess I should get under and have a look to see if I can find a tag. All I can find on the My-15 D-Max spec sheet is the auto is a 3.7 final drive so I'm guessing that's the diff ratio.I will have a look over the week end

Have read of others sourcing previous model diffs from wreckers and they bolt straight in. No personnal experience.

forgive me for butting in here. btw new member, hello everyone.
I too am considering dmax and was looking to see if they had lsd or system like trutrac or ashcroft lsd available to install aftermarket.
came across this discussion and the previous posts about the LSD and TC brake distribution system. as far as i am aware the brake distribution systems work perfectly in tandem with LSD. the brake applied by the electronic system fools the LSD into thinking there is still traction on the free wheel which will still then apply drive to the wheel on the ground. This is the case with discovery 2 anyway. the detroit trutrac and ashcroft ATB systems work beautifully with the disco 2 brake distribution system. similarly to my discovery 1 which has no electronic brake system but when i have a wheel spinning in the air i can heel/toe it and the brake force which i am applying to the spinning wheel fools my ashcroft ATB into thinking there is still some traction and applies drive to the wheel on the ground. only works to some extent and is not like a fully locked diff but i've never had any trouble. my D1 is amazing offroad. although getting a bit older now and with a young family have less time to work on it, so considering getting something newer (ute) which i have to spend less time on and has more creature comfort. been looking at dmax, bt50, ranger and amarok.

HI Fausto79 Welcome to 4x4 earth forum.
I have a My15 DMax and I'm in the seting up process for our big trip.
The TC works very well on the DMax. Very Happy with the DMax. The Ford ranger was over priced for me, the VW Amarok is a very well appointed but I heard the after service wasn't great. I did how ever go to our local GMH dealer to test drive a Colorado the sales man said I had to book appointment for a test drive,Well that didn't go down well and didn't go back bought a DMAX that day.
I don't know what state you live. If you're setting the Duel cab for traveling or as a touring Ute fill it to 75% capacity and get the rego changed to a touring.
Have a look at this it might answer your Question.
I did see some were the next generation BT50 with have the engine and running gear of the Isuzu DMax.
Hope this helps

Hi Fausto79 Glad to help. There are some really good Secondhand DMAX out here take your time. I used carsales to look and research. I bought New two years ago.I paid 42000 for mine, and spent a load of $$$ on it.Don't forget they will bend over at the EOFY on new. If you live in S.A I'll give you a friend who is a salesman for ISUZU he might have some S/H. If only you were looking a little while ago he sold his for 38000 with 20.000ks on the clock. So they out there at a really great deals. GOOD Luck
GREAT THE DMAX
Cheers

Im in Perth. Thanks all the same though. Will test drive some vehicles once I'm ready. Want to get a feel for them. As far as driveabity I'd say the amarok would be the most comfortable. Just not convinced on longevity of such a small motor with twin turbo. No low range either

Hi the VW Auto is like low range have a look on you tube very helpful and they probably need twin turbo being a 2Lt engine. Yes your right unknown engine,at least the DMax engine is proven for longevity. I would still steer towards the DMAX or MUX just depends on what you need the vehicle for.
Good Luck with your Quest keep in touch with the forum and let us know what you get and all the mods with pics.
My choice is still the DMAX hands down its all about the $$$ and what you get for the money
