Dmax diff lock

I'm considering buying a new Dmax LS-U Space Cab , auto .
The young salesman I was talking to today said they had a rear Diff Lock , can't see a Diff Lock mentioned anywhere on the spec sheet he gave me .

So I guess he is mistaken, is that right .

Anyone fitted cross axle lockers to their Dmax , I have front and rear ARB Air lockers in my Hilux , don't want bloody Air Lockers again .

Regards Jacko .

No lockers. No LSD either.

Eaton make an electronic locker for the Dmax

100% the current 2013 shape Dmax doesnt have any diff lock or LSD from the factoy.

Its obvious the guy doent know the vehicle he is selling or he is just trying to make a sale by lying.

He was only a young bloke he probably needs to have a read of the spec sheet .
I guess with ESC a LSD is not needed

I had a test drive of a Mazda BT50 , nice truck but a lot more $$$$$

Anyone had a GVM upgrade done on their DMax

I can see the problem of being over weight becoming a issue ?

I know when I'm on a trip my Hilux is way over .

Not ideal but the Dmax is still competitively priced against the rest of the market for what you get.
They use electronic traction aid instead of LSD.

that's understandable then that a lsd is deleted with electronic traction control added . Just as long as people realise its hard on brake rotors and drums , speeds up wear big time on these components . compared to vehicles with no electronic traction control.

Hey Jacko, my Isuzu 2011 has a LSD in the rear (and is about the best I have used ) so I didn't want to replace that so was looking at an E locker for the front, its not a cheap fit to a D-Max so now are having 2nd thoughts, was only going to fit it for the cape next year, and as said before bit harder on the running gear. Max continues to surprise me with its ability don't think you will be disappointed . Off topic you missed breakfast this morning.

Cheers Bass

Thank Bass , don't worry about being off topic , any/all info from owners welcomed , what was the price of the Elocker .
We did the Cape this year in July including the OTL , some of the Creek Crossings were a lot more chopped up compared to out trip in 2011 .

should be about 600 bucks labour to fit a locker to the front mate. I think I may just get a lokka for mine . you cant turn them on an off . not completely decided yet

I had a Lock-Rite same as a Lokka , in my 2.8 Hilux it worked fine no problems for as long as I had the vehicle.
I would not fit one to a vehicle that has no free wheeling hubs , if I didn't unlock the hubs on the road you could still feel it locking and unlocking when on the road . You could still drive it but in town tight turns , round abouts ect it didn't feel / sound good .
That's why I went with Air Lockers with my current Hilux , it's a SR. so the front wheels rotate the CV's , Diff ect when in 2wd . Most 4x4's are like that now . SR5 Hilux has Toyots ADD it would be ok with a Lokka . Dunno about the DMax , I'm guessing prob not .

good thing about dmax and even the Colorado is old rodeo and jackaroo free wheel hubs bolt on . makes fitting a locker a little better like you say but I wonder what it will do when the electronic traction control kicks in if both wheels slip on the axle with the locker . I don't even know if I would bother with a locker at all with traction control unless it was disabled.

If you can fit FWH , a Lokka would be ok . I would prefer a diff lock or 2 for 4wding than traction control , just turn it off .
My Hilux is useless without diff locks ,

I was perfectly happy with the Lock-right in my 2.8lux , I would have no hesitation fitting one again if I had FWH's

Unsure about the DMAX, but in a Colorado the "traction control" is only good to a point. Honestly it's not that good, but until I organise a front locker it's all I really have. Rear LSD in Colorado is great but almost useless when the front end is so happy to spin away.

What model Colorado are you talking about with a rear LSD? The current model doesn't have a LSD.

I could be wrong ( more than likely ) but my understanding is, traction control is useless at slow speed. ARB are having a sale on diff locks, getting rid of old stock the story is, however a diff lock for Max is $900.00 PLUS $1200.00 fitting. All up same bloody price as it was 2 years ago apparently the whole front end has to come out. couldn't pin the man down to a price for the E Locker but he said in the area of $2200.00. If I get a locker it will not be ARB couldn't get anyone to help me at sandown, and all the bloke at Traralgon wanted to do was fill helium balloons for kids.
