Most of you are aware there are an abundant of dead 4jx1 powered jackaroo . most of them find them selves in the wreckers . But most people would not touch a 4jx1 with a 40 foot barge pole so we found that the fuel tanks are cheap . We paid 100 dollars for a 135 litre long range tank and converted it for petrol in a couple of hours.
I filled the tank with water then
I drilled a 76mm hole over the top of the outlet and the return line. tossed a magnet in the tank to catch filings
Then used the pump gasket as a template to make two c shaped bolt retailers as the normal petrol tank has threads for bolts to screw . This way the nuts are on the out side . drill holes in tank for . tossed a magnet in the tank to catch filings. and shook the tank with water in it for ages. pulled out the magnet cleaned it and tossed it back in and left it there.
now the diesel tank is 5mm too short at the pump pick up. so I removed the pump, cut 5 mm from the hose that's submerged in the tank, cut 5mm out of the submerged part of the fuel pump bracket and welded it . now the pump pick up sits on the bottom with out bottoming out. if you see the weld on the fuel pump bracket you will understand.
almost time to assemble . final rinse with high pressure hose with magnet to catch metal . blow out tank with air until dry. add metho. swish tank around . drain metho from tank . install c shaped retainers with threads facing up . used rubber fuel pump gasket to hold them in , added pump , added bolts and locktighted threads torqued them to 4nm like wheel nuts. then to 8nm. liberally sprayed the top of the pump with CRC SOFT SEAL fitted tank , filled tank , wired pump and plumbed hoses. turn key. now cost over 200 dollars to fill the tank.
