Big mess mate. I couldn't believe it. That section after the step is muddy slippery hill, that is really dangerous. Just struggling to understand how DSE can let this happen. I think a lot of people who r inexperienced and go down this track will get themselves into big trouble as we discovered on the weekend and had to help a few others out that were not in group.
Thanks for the pics Digger; it is a bloody mess....
No worries, yeh I think better they gate it then shut it down for good. To much of a good track to never be opened again. Walhalla was a mess in general a lot of tracks were grated and shouldn't of been making them a lot worse then they normally are. It was sooo muddy at times I thought we were at Toolangi. Lol
Hey Anth! Thanks to you and all the guys for your help in getting me out of trouble, and then for your advice and guidance to make my eventual try up the hill a success. It would be a pleasure to see you again on the tracks. In the meantime stay safe!
Hey Allan,
Looks like you dd a shite load to clear the track looking at those pics.
Agreed, it should have been a seasonal closure & still should.
Very dangerous on that left section, slippery & if you don't make it, you go left off the side as you go back.
If its still open, I think it's a summer track. Great track!
Hey Digger. Well... I did say to them I was going to go back with one of your guys (Scotty?), and they did wait at the top of the track for 1.5h according to them. But by the time I got back they were wondering a) how they were going to go looking for me and b) how they were going to break the news to my wife LOL!! I did learn a lot from the day (thanks) and I now have something to give my mates stick about forever :OHey Peter, good to see you on here. No worries was a pleasure as I said we never leave anyone stuck out on the tracks without helping them. Can imagine you learnt a lot that day that's the main thing. What did your mates say when you got back to camp?

Isnt the whole purpose of the DSE to preserve the natural environment ?? Walhalla is/was such a beautiful area and that rock ledge was a natural formation that they have destroyed and by the looks of it they've done far more damage than any amount of 4wding would ever do.
