Sad news.

Inexperience? Lack of training? Slipping foot? Combination of errors?

Very sad indeed. I guess we will know all the facts in due course, but still extremely sad for all concerned. Just goes to show, it can happen at any time, but just sad an elderly man had to go that way! VALE mate!

Lots of ways to look at it & Lost1 makes a good point.

Out there & doing what you love to do :)

Approx 175,000 people die a year in the USA from slipping in the bathroom or incidents within their own home.

Over quite a few years I think I've had more than a few occasions where I thought another millimetre & I'd be gone.
Almost choked out last year home alone when I had an obstruction in my windpipe.

Life is precious, just enjoy it for now as there may not be a tomorrow!

76 years old, hope to get there.

I have know this guy for 25 years (through work), we were shocked to hear of his passing.
He was on a 4-6 week trip with friends coming from Vic and doing a giant loop through the middle.
He was very experienced and had been 4x4ing for a very long time.
I don't have any more details than what you have here, but it just shows how easy it can be for things to go terribly wrong.
Be careful out there everyone. A few seconds of distraction can have devastating results.

G'day Ralphee

Firstly, my most sincere condolences to you regarding the loss of your friend in such a tragic way.

I for one personally thank you for sharing your knowledge of and connection to the man who lost his life, actually is very important because it gives (me) some closure to what must have been a horrible situation for the travelling companions of the man who died.

As yet no details have been made public apart from the incident happening, I had heard a few Chinese whispers but like everything that's talked about without knowing all the facts is these days commonly referred to as 'fake news' and invariably is in fact utter bullshit.

I have marked the date and time of the incident in my journal, as this tragedy will be recorded in the history of the Canning Stock Route.

Safe travels : Joe

Terrible news, maybe 4x4 people need to be advised of Line of Fire, a pretty common thing in workplaces, i.e. dont put yourself there, but it still causes a lot of injuries.

A few years ago I rolled a Mitsubishi Delica, loved the idea of a 4x4 people carrier and had some good fun, just didnt think I needed 4x4 on an unsealed road and cornered too fast, hit the side of the road and its CoG inverted us.

First lesson, drive slower, second lesson, you have 4x4 engage it, third lesson, we were returning from town with a full 10 gallon water container not tied down, went from the back to the front past the kids, luckily didnt hit anyone, never have an unsecured load.

The tow truck came out to turn it over and the operator was stood between the rolled Delica, the Tow Truck and in LoF of a snapped cable, I warned him but he wasnt interested, luckily nothing happened.

Not meaning to jump to conclusions and possible a difficult thing to ensure in a recovery, but you can de risk many things to a lower chance of incident, sometimes however, its your time.

RIP.
