Hi Jacked Surf,
Yes the old beach lifestyle is one of the best ways of life.:D
Have been doing it since I was a young kid,my parents used to take us to the beach very regulary,as we lived 7 min walk to a great surf beach in Warilla N.S.W (they surf fished, while we kids played in the sand & the water) when I got to about 8 my parents gave us kids a 'surfamat/plane' as they where called back then(they where a blow up material covered rubber mat with rope handles) & we used to "surf" on them (they would fold up as soon as you stood up,if pressure was low:p) that was technically our "first" surfboard!
So anyway have been surfing ever since, not as good as I used to be. after 2 knee ops,but still get out there as much as I can.

Hi Ekki, Is that Agnes Waters,Q.L.D near Seventeen Seventy, that you are talking about ??because we popped in there on way to Mackay in 2009,lots people out & was only good for longboarder that day.But stopped for a little while at Yeppon & surfed Byfield National Park, which was also great 4wding,some hellish tracks!!

PS/I've got a sticker on my other car called S.A.L.T (Surfers Against Lid Traffic) got it at a surf shop in Scarborough Beach,W.A,it looks  not that I've got anything against skid lids:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Skid lids, more like speed humps mate. Back in the day, i used to surf. Still got a few boards and wetsuits etc. My mates and brothers were into the speed hump thing. I'm with Jacked Surf, don't have the build for it now....

Yep that's the one - got some property in The Valley and he's pretty self sufficient. Calls his place Kamp Krusty and there are many stories to tell from "Blokes World" although so long as your not a "Whinging Female" you are allowed to stay. All he does is Surf, Fish (when there's no surf) eat and drink. It's a hell of a lifestyle - but someone's got to do it I suppose.

So what do you have to be able to do before you get in on the secret language of surfies. What the ? . . . . speed humps? Skid lids??? I will have a guess ; speed hump - a body surfers bum if they stray out of the yellow flags and into the surfer's path. Skid lids - those skimmer board things that the kids chuck on the wet sand and go skimming along. Close?

To get into the "secret" language you have to SURF,for a starters.

Well "skid lids" are boogie board riders (they lay down on small bits of foam)

Now "speed humps" is when a Stand Up Surfboard Rider runs over the boogie board rider.:D:D

especially when they 'drop in'while you are on a nice wave. ('drop in' is again surfie talk).

Ekki,
YES, NOW THATS MY KINDA LIFE THAT I WANT!!!!!!!:cool::cool::cool:

Knot_gillty, It used to be fun many years ago:),but theres too many of them out there now.
They might gang up on me !!!!:rolleyes:

Thanks for telling me your secrets. Only time I ever owned a surfboard was when I bought a clapped out short board from a garage sale for $2, down at Norlunga on a Sunday drive. Was going to repair it for my six year old son. Started, but never finished it. Maybe just as well! Sold it at our next garage sale for someone else to finish.

Yeah, war on the water! I remember seeing a bit about that on the TV over the years. Bit like road rage by the sound of it. Good way to spoil your day. Too many surfers and body boarders and not enough waves. No wonder some of them drive hundreds of km over to the west coast.

I have it so good as a swimmer. If the temperature is below 25 degrees I can be just about be guaranteed to have the ocean to myself, from Brighton to North Haven. I can put my head down and go for it without a care in the world. Much better than a smelly, jam packed gym, or pounding the concrete, jogging along city streets with exhaust fumes everywhere.

Its like driving out in the remote bush. A wilderness, and I have it all to myself! Never even seen another swimmer when its under 25. Amazing when I think about it, all this space to move, and just over the sandhills a million people like ants in a nest!

Occasionally you come up to a kite-surfer on a windy day. But they are real gentleman. I stand up to make myself more visible, and watch them play, pick my time, and make haste as I keep one eye on them just in case!

I better not rave on too much or everyone will be down there and MY secret will be out.

Now come on you guys. Bit off track here with all this surfy stuff. Back on topic now.

Hi Shane. Have a good week? Just sorting this motley crew out for you.

Now how did this post get on to surfing from an old surfie from way back. I was looking for people who are interested in a day trip to do some tracks on the york pen. As far as I can gather there are 3 or 4 defenats and 5 surfies. Yes my work load is big as I work on the roads all week and I get to come home on saturdays. That leaves me sundays to go 4 wding.

Stinky has been going surfing with Wooky since Stinky was only a grommet so we have a few stories to tell. Careful baby... ;) :D

We are still a lot closer to any surf than those that live in the northern suburbs. Their closest surf would probably be bottom of Yorkes else it's a long drive through the city.
Might be up for a trip out in May - Maybe we can convince Dick/Helena and Hassy/Katie to come too if there is a choice between one dayer or two they might be more flexible.

I have an excuse, I was young and impresoinable. Thats all i ve got to say on that.

Here we go again surfing how about a day trip to Innes Np for surfing and fishing and see how we go for numbers without doing any tracks. Might get a better response to this thread.

You tell 'em Shane! Those b...y surfies! ;)

At least I worked hard on the motor today to get it ready for the trip. Managed to hone out the first two bores. Well, probably an excuse for honing! I think the guy who sold me the honing tool pulled the truck size off the shelf. Anyway I reckon I got the glaze off, but couldn't guarantee a very good cross hatch. First time I've tried honing!

So making slow progress as usual, but should be ready in time.

Thats good Millys on the motor but you are chatting to an old surfie here mate. Every one was talking about surfing I thought I would see if I got a response on a surfing and fishing trip.

I think you made them all feel guilty. Either that or now that you have challenged them to front up, maybe they're all too big and wobbly with their old knees to show us how its done :D:D;)

You were kidding I hope? I know I'm keen to do those tracks you've been talking about. And I certainly won't be testing the waters down there, with the big 'fish'! They can swallow a long board you know, and then have room left over for deserts!

I'm still interested in either trip. Just don't want to cause problems by bringing the speed bump.

and those waters are probably not suited to a beginner on a long board.

but still interested in the day trip 2

Put us down for a daytripper at this stage. The Stink, us and a few others are heading up to Arkaroola in August so am trying to watch the pennies - but any excuse to get away.

I am planing on doing a day trip to the Yorke Pen. on the 9/5/10 will be travelling down the pen from Prt Victoria to Hardwick Bay along the coast which is a mix of sand gravel and clay pans. If time permites will go down to Marion Bay and travel to Edithburg by the south coast road which is gravel sand and some limestone. I am looking for about 12 to 15 4bys to join me in this trip. It will be a family day with a few laughts and some meduim 4x4ing in soft sand and if wet the clay pans will may it real interesting day. ;)

Hi Shane,
Did you know that its Mothers Day on the 9th May ?
We would of come, but my wife has a "Mothers Day Classic" event in Adelaide, for breast cancer that day.
We would of liked to of come to what sounds like an interesting day.

(also I did post up that I couldn't attend a few posts ago,I was looking at the wrong date!)

Ps,sorry about "talking" too much about surfing on your thread !

There is still room for more to tag along and bring your cameras too as there are some great sights to see and photograph Geoff sa The track we are taking runs on the land side of the sandhills there. I was over that way this week and had a look at the Pt Vic end of the track its going to be a lot of fun and plenty of sand. The joys of working on the roads and staying on the Yorks for a couple of days. Have heard of a couple of more track I am going to do a trip that way at easter to see if i can find them. and do some fishing at Wallaroo and north towards Pt Broughton.:D:D:D
