Dargo Queens Birthday

Heya folks,

Myself and a few mates are heading up to Dargo for the upcoming long weekend.

I have a couple of questions that i need answering from someone experienced in the area.

1st does the Dargo General Store have Gas? or any other town close
2nd are there any seasonal closures we need to be aware of.

We are traveling up from Sale > Dargo > Omeo then home, we'll be finding tracks along the way as well to please our needs.

Any info would be awesome. We'll be camping out in the bush also.

G'day Blaknight,
There is no gas at Dargo, you could do what I do and run on petrol all weekend and use gas as a back up seems to work pretty well.
All the tracks should be open as they normally close after the Queens birthday weekend and reopen Melbourne cup weekend. Depending on the weather, it will dictate what tracks you will do while you are up there.
Have a good week end

Gas for the car- no. Gas for cooking- yes.

There is a huge variety of tracks up there. Get yourself the Rooftop map showing Dargo and Omeo. It has some tracknotes on it, although the current version is a little dated info wise. Talk to Danny in the store or ask at the Pub or DSE at the Works yard (opposite the "church").

Expect a reasonable amount of traffic on the tracks, as it is the last run for the seasonal tracks- but they are mostly up on the High Plains a good 30km north. If you are going to Omeo, then I doubt you will be going that far as you will have to double back to head east, or keep going around via Hotham on the blacktop (Great Alpine Way).

Oh, and as always, beware of the "Ghostriders", or "Temporary Australians". The idiot motorbike riders should be out in force as well.

as gunna said the weather will decide what tracks you do, a fair whack of them would be extream in the wet in the area of dargo and crooked river.

if you do blue rag and its fairly wet i wouldnt go down to the river after the nice ridge line drive.

sounds like fun enjoy.
