UMMMMMMM. Did you get a detailed invoice???? Was it front or rear? Or both?? I'de be checking around. The bushes sound VERY excessive. I replaced my brake pads recently. All round. Had the discs machined. Repacked the front bearings, New brake lines etc. $660 Replacement of bearings is not that much more time consuming. Although, did they use genuine nissan parts?? Factory supplied parts are MEGA EXPENSIVE!! Some parts, even though the price, are worth it. get a detailed invoice, including time and parts.

man i was waiting for you to say that you had a full hub rebuild as well, is it exesive in price well i think so i think they put the apprentice on the job and mate was he slow but each to there own, you have to way up the odds did you have time to do the job yourself and the tools, if not then you pay the book price and it does say 4-41/2 hours for the swival hub's rebuild including bearings, but the panhard rod and radius arm i think is well over as they should be only 1 hour, best thing in life is if you cant do the work yourself is find a mech that you know and can trust, thats my 2 cents worth

a few questions
1. 4.5 hrs labour x2 = 9hrs, so they worked on your 4b for 9 hrs straight without any break.
2. autoplex grease x1, so they used a whole tube/tin on your 4b or are you paying to restock their shelves.
3. wheel alignment $75, I would question that price, should only be around the $35 mark.
4. I would also question the time it took them to do the work, should not take anywhere near that time.

Hey croozza, with the labour it could be two seprate blokes doing each job which each one took 4.5hrs

one doing the wheel bearings
one doing panhards etc

Break the job down piece by piece that sounds about right. Yeah maybe a bit long on the bearings but who's to say they didn't just split the hours in half. I would think they may actually be more than 4.5 hrs in the other part of the job. Price for bearings is about right. Bushes are about right maybe a little cheaper than expected. And $75 for a wheel alignment did the 4x4 go off site? Keep in mind prices in Syd are more than Qld.

Cheers

take in to considaration ,were the wheel bearings seized on the stub axle , were the castor plates welded in place ,did they have trouble gettign the bushes out ,as these are all realistic obstacles we face in the workshop .the more ya 4x4s is used the more seized evrythign becomes ,the less maintatined ones 4x4 is the longer simple jobs take .
Maybe a bit long on the wheel bearings . And depending where you go the bearing kits come with the hub gaskerts ( don kyatts bearing kits come with all gaskerts in there and are ass good as genuine )
They used genuine nissan bushes over the poorer quality parts at repco -which is a good thing .
Being realistic and from experience I would be allowing a day to do the job properly .
Just because you may have gotten it done cheaper else where does not mean its a quality job using quality parts .

no mate - I do see your point and where you are coming from .
theres alot of blokes who say they do this job in this time and that job shouldnt take that long but dont really know .
Also being a business owner it is much preferred if theres a problem or a question go straight back there and ask them first to justiy it or rectify it - if they give piss poor response or service -bring it out in the open .
glad to hear its going and sounding better ,keep us all posted on how it performs in the long term ,having genuine nissan bushes used instead of 2nd rate cheap crap will be of a huge benefit in the long run for sure .

Manell Motors.... nah thats about the right price lol

Not dissing his work or anything but hear he likes to charge like a wounded bull, he has a lot of toys to maintain hehe

This is the problem with 4bs they are very specific and with the mud and carp all over parts ect and people charge to work on em. Muck around on them and you'll start to do more work on your car and become happier to work on it, and then when the proverbibal hits the fan on track you'll be able to fix it.

But anyway, if you're happy with it and drives okay then money well spent?

wow i could of bought another zook for that price... it pays to know a mechanic well(a mate preferably)

doing stuff at home, just pulling it apart and trying to work it out can be fun... but a learning experience...

i do nearly everything at home...(lol sometimes out the front on a main road have the cars on stands lol)

if u dont know how to do it ask... if stuck ask...

doing mechanical repairs at home is way cheaper but we must consider the overheads a mechanical workshop has these days like enviroment levy fees, insurences, workshop rent, power + water bills and ect. everything is getting dearer( thank you gillard for helping small bussness into the ground) if they have done a micky mouse job its worth every cent youve paid

im doing my rear bearings and seals at the moment and it should be around 150$ . The diff center is good so will not have to do the bearings in it .

unlikely a gu would have seized wheel bearings, depending on servicing i suppose. i think 3 hours is generous for front wheel bearings.
4.5 hrs if your doing it at home.
really its just as easy as a repack because the time you'd normally taking cleaning out the old grease, is the same sorta time it takes to knock in the new bearing cones.

all in all it doesnt look too bad, and as pointed out already, they may have just split the total time in two.

on a 4by, nothing is straight forward, bolts seize, wheel bearings get welded on the stub axle, it all takes time. I would question that both jobs took the same time, but the main thiing is if you are happy with the work, and it has recrified all the problems, then money well spent.

one of the reasons i do what i can myself, and if i cant do it, then my mechanic will take the time to assist me in his workshop, then i see how its done and how much time it takes.
