Yes but the time frame used is 2019/20 which covers part of the Covid period and we already know that when Covid is about Flu is rare because of the measures to treat Covid work well for Flu as well. The other aspect is that there are vaccines for flu and symptom treatment strategies so comparing them is not relevant. I suspect that if there were not treatments for the Flu as there are now, I suspect infection rates and deaths would be similar.

The Spanish Flu (really should have been called the American Flu) highlights how fatal flu can be without effective vaccines and treatments.

I think what the article and many similar articles are alluding to is the fact that at this time ,covid19 is much more deadly. Maybe if we get treatments and vacinations down the track you could hopefully say it is no worse maybe even better then getting the flu.
If you read @Kippie article previous to my post you will see that these are also annual figures for the flue world wide, which are much lower than covid 19 over less than a year.

I wonder how you came to that conclusion. Covid19 deaths world wide to date just over 1 million despite all the lockdowns, social distancing etc. and its end is not yet in sight, whereas seasonal flu deaths range between 291,000 and 646,000.

Yep worded wrongly as a rushed post before I headed out to work, I should have written death toll from those infected NOT total death toll.
Covid has a higher contagion rate because no one has any immunity from it and there is no vaccine for those in society that feel they are at high risk. If latest reports from WHO are correct and 1 in 10 has had covid 19 then the death rate of those infected is very low as a percentage.
It will be interesting in a year or 2 to look back at total deaths worldwide to see how many more die in 2020-2021 compared with averages over the last 10 years

But you are not comparing apples with apples - the Flu has proven vaccines and effective treatments of symptoms that save lives - what is the fatality rate if these were not available? Who knows but we get a clue from the death rate of the Spanish Flue (really the American Flu) and that indicates that current flu fatality rate is far, far less than what is was before vaccinations.

Yeah, but isn't that the point for the lockdowns etc? Until we find a vaccine or a reliable treatment method Covid19 is worse than the flu. Hopefully in future Covid19 will be "just another flu".

I think most of them are just fined. Those that don't give ID are breaking another law and they would probably be arrested and taken to a police station to prove identity and then released. I don't think any are actually thrown in jail.

You did hear about this didn’t you Rog where she ended up bleeding in the sand because around 6 officers were man handling her... There is video footage of it, don’t you think a big fine would have been a better option so she could have her day in court if she wanted too...

I also watched a bloke being arrested for not wearing a mask locally , look he could have been warned previously i don’t know, he is one of those blokes that’s not the full quid, lived in the area for years,I bought him a couple of donuts years ago when he asked me for money, he did resist as they went to grab him, trying to brush them off and had a frightened look on his face as if to say what the hell are you doing.

Arrested because she would not give her ID. Had she of calmly ( without all the ferrals yelling and screaming) gave her name and address she would have copped a fine and then fought it in court.
Other ferrals got involved and tried to intimidate the cops. That ain't gonna work.

Am sure there are people caught without a mask who mainly do the right thing. However if the law says wear a mask and you don't , well cop the fine, don't start an argument or a fight and then present your case to the courts.

No, just cop the fine and go to court if I reckon I am hard done by. Having known plenty of cops, some who won't take crap, well I know what I would do.
Not wearing a mask is against the law, even if we don't agree. I find it hard to breathe with one on and a bloody nuisance to wear, however I don't want to pay a $5,000.00 fine , or worse if I start a fight.
