All sounds great but those “scientists “ type worry me, they have stuffed up our flora and fauna a number of times with their introduction and meddling in species thinking they know what they are doing
Will the rivers turn sour with the huge numbers of dead carp in them?
Good point @Albynsw , cane toad was a disaster
IF ????? We can irradicate carp without other species suffering it would be fantastic .
But if it takes killing other fish to do it I would take a punt as we could re stock rivers , lakes with native species .
Australia is not the only country that has the carp curse but we could become the first country to totally irradicate them .

That's actually what they're studying now. How many carp they can kill in a certain water volume without impacting the water quality.

Apparently one of the things that has been holding up release of the herpes had been planning on how to deal with all the dead carp rotting and taking all the oxygen out of the water, thereby killing everything else in the river.

That was the initial thought I had as an issue
Hopefully they can sort it out and then see if they can give cane toads herpes as well

It's more fair to blame politicians, beaurocrats and industry lobbyists than scientists.

Didn’t the pollies rely on the CSIRO scientists to advise them of these things ? They got it wrong
Yeah agree with McGinnis they get advice and then do what ever they want anyway

not to say this is the case with the carp as I haven’t heard any supporting information
