Cape York

Motorists planning on heading to Cape York could find the going a bit easier thanks to Qld Main Roads. An information pack “ Drive to the conditions” contains useful info and tips about driving on unsealed roads, dusty conditions and stray livestock and wildlife on the roads. The packs are distributed in Cooktown and Cairns or can be ordered through Main Roads. Phone 40505405 for details.

Just take plenty of photos while you're up at Fraser...

enough said.. ;)
I think it's common knowledge the Greenies would like to limit the numbers that are allowed on the Island. The money spinner called tourism benefits a lot of people in the region and I think it will be a battle. I tend to agree with you Grit, i think it won't be operating as we know it for much longer. I suspect "The tour operators" will be the only vehicles allowed on the island.

We have a trip planned for July 2009. Best time work-wise, best weather up that way and probably the earliest I can take the time to do it properly. So far we have at-least 5 going with the trip officially starting off from Cairns. Some will be putting their rigs on a train from Bris. to Cairns (31 Hr trip). Drivers will most likely accompany cars on the train with their passengers flying to Cairns direct. The only thing set in concrete so far is July 2009...

gotta start somewhere.

I was chatting to my Old Man last night - he is on his way back at the moment. (made it back to Cooktown so far)

So far he has done one rear tyre and a rear window (the smaller one) on his GU Patrol. But he was saying it has been a brilliant trip so far and really enjoyed the fact he made it to the tip.

Cheers

Note to Self: Take a large enough sheet of clear plastic to cover tailgate. ;)

(Guess I could use the tarp I carry to cover my grille)
