I'm considering the same. About the same time too. Once that mongrel Sorenson stops teasing us with his picy's from the Vic highlands, and he comes home, we'll fix some dates. They may tie together!

I've got no chance of getting off work again that soon and I wouldn't have enough leave owing by then anyway. I was hoping to get away around August but even then i'm probably only likely to stretch 3 weeks. We may indeed have to do some really quick chattin Frosty...

Choice isn't easy....

Hi,

Name is nathan and am also looking at a trip to the tip. Originally approached by a work mate with his intention to head up late April. Mentioned the Wet and that May would be better.

We are in Proserpine, just north of Mackay. He has a 60 series and i the 55.

Then got talking to another mate in Cairns about it who was actually already planning a trip with he and his girlfriend on their bikes (DRZ 400 x 2)

He rode up last year from Cape Tribulation to the tip.......on his pushbike, so at least knows some of the country.

Am unsure now whether to take the cruiser or my bike up.

To summarise though, will keep posted on the departure date. just depends on how much water we all get up here and what the crossings will be like during/after May.

Regards,
Nathan

hey guys.here it is

Itinerary for our trip to Cape,

  1. Leave Hervey Bay early Sunday 20th of June, head North toward Sarina, first night will be at Waverley Creek Rest Area
  • From Waverley Creek we will continue through Townsville to Balgal Beach located near Rollingstone.
  • Tuesday we continue north and turn off at Innisfail to head towards Atherton, turn off to Yungaburra.
  • Leave Lake Tinaroo and make tracks for Mareeba, travelling through we will stop at Lakefield NP for Wednesday night stopover.
  • Thursday will consist of a slow run up Development Road and transverse to Archer River Roadhouse and spending a night it civilised amenities
  • Friday we will continue to Chilli Beach to spend at least one night here. Depending on our supplies we may stay another night. Saturday we'll probably travel on, we will spend 3 nights in this band.
  • Saturday is very probable that we will end up in Weipa due to supplies which if we stay one night at Chilli Beach will see us spend the extra night here.
  • Monday we hit the road again leading to Bramwell Junction, should be early enough for some great photos and a refreshing swim.
  • Dulhunty River will be on the agenda for our Tuesday overnighter
  • Wednesday will see us take pleasure in watching and participating in the Infamous “Gun Shot” for a few hours before stopping at Elliot Falls for a night
  • Thursday travelling will see us complete the telegraph line and stop for at the Jardine before looping around Friday morning and hitting Bamaga.
  • Friday night we will setup camp at the Tip, we will spend 3 nights here to give opportunity for those who want to barge it to Thursday Island.
  • Monday morning we pack up camp and begin our journey home. First night will be spent at Captain Billy Landing.
  • Moving south, Tuesday brings us a night with friends at Coen
  • Wednesday is our return stopover at Lakefield NP. One night here
  • We say “farewell” to the Development road on Thursday and make tracks towards Cooktown where we spend two nights taking in the sights
  • Saturday morning we hope to make a decision by now as to where will stay tonight. At this point of time we have decided we have a choice. We will stay either at Daintree, Port Douglas, Palm Cove (near Cairns) or Babinda Rest Area.
  • Where ever we stay we will depart on Sunday and head down back to Balgal Beach
  • Monday we set for Sarina, we may stay another night at Waverley Creek Rest area or possible stop at Carmila Beach.
  • Red Rock Camp Ground will be on the agenda for Tuesday night, set in the Byfield NP we hope to have a bit of a play before hitting the blacktop.
  • Wednesday is a short rip to Gin Gin where the roadside overnight stop will be taken advantage of.
  • Thursday sees us safely home before back to work on Monday; we have a couple of nights still up our sleeve, so, we may decide to stay at a couple of locations an extra night, Byfield NP looks promising. Will have to see.

We'll be at Bramwell Junction when you leave Brisbane, by the time we hit the top, you should be just about there, we'll be on UHF 21, probably a good thing we staying there for 3 nights if you get there with us :)
