Cape York - 2015!

Guys unfortunately I'm gunna have to bail on this trip.
Ive got to have knee surgery in the next few weeks and funds don't stretch far enough to cover both.
This sucks being so close to going but can't do much about it.
If any of the campsites or ferries have been booked and paid by anyone please let me know and I'll sort out payment.
Have a great trip guys.

Well we are just a few days from popping out at the coast and making our way north. I'm starting to get excited now and really looking forward to doing this epic trip with a great bunch of guys and girls.

Just to make a few things clear though: any Qld supporters who wish to watch the origin will have to pretend they don't know us real men, ok.
Lmao You a real man come on yobbo

Sorry to hear that, was looking forward to meeting you. Hope all goes well with the knee surgery.
As far as money, I have paid the deposit for Punsand Bay and you owe me $300.... Nah, just messing with you.:D
The deposit I paid is sorted so you are fine mate, no need to worry at all. Just get that knee fixed and get back out on the tracks.;):)

I had someone write to me this weekend highlighting some safety issues that have not yet been raised, and suggestions to improve it.
  1. First aid. I and I'm sure most of you will be carrying a basic first aid kit in the car, but if something semi serious or life threatening arises who knows what to do? Do we have anyone on the trip who is a qualified first aider who will volunteer for this role on the trip?
  2. Next of kin. In the hopefully very unlikely event that someone is very seriously injured how is this going to be relayed back to their family? The suggestion was that the details are written on a piece of paper, placed in a sealed envelope and given to the trip leader. At the conclusion of the trip envelopes will be returned. Sound fair to everyone?
  3. Medical history. If anyone has any conditions, allergies or is on any prescribed meds that can prohibit them from certain activities, or will assist emergency services if the need arises, I suggest that these details are also written on a piece of paper in a sealed envelope and given to the first aider (if we have one - trip leader otherwise) to be returned at the conclusion of the trip.
  4. Emergency communications. I believe Richard will have your sat phone with you, are you comfortable in that being the trip emergency contact device? Will anyone have an EPIRB?
  5. Recoveries. Recoveries are most certainly going to happen on this trip, and they need to be conducted in a way that is not only safe for individuals, but gets vehicles out safely with minimal to no damage. Is there anyone on the trip who has any training in safe recovery (incl winching) that would like to volunteer for the role? If we have no-one then I suggest the driver of the stuck vehicle is to nominate 1 person to be in control of that recovery, not necessarily the person who is closest at the time.
I hate rules and structure like this as it is my assumption that we are all very responsible and sensible adults. Past experiences have shown that this is not always the case. This is supposed to be a fun and exciting trip so that's where I really want the focus to be.

Can I respectfully suggest everyone has one of these in there vehicle, oh & leave a spare set of keys in someone else's car in case doors lock or they get lost somehow

Wouldn't think you'd need an Epirb where your going and with the experienced group , but hey better to be safe I guess

cheers

That's perfect, maybe we can all use one of these? The EPIRB question was just out of curiosity, it's not a necessity for this trip I don't think.

Thanks cookie :)

Thanks for that Cookie. I will print a heap and throw them in the car.

I always carry a spare key in the console on trips. Figured it better to drive home with a broken window then be stuck in the middle of nowhere if you loose your key. But good idea giving it to someone else

On a much more serious note, I went to BCF and picked up 3 barra lures that I was told will net me the biggest barras ever seen. Fishing guy there said that although it's not barra season these things are like mars bars to fat kids. So should we have a biggest barra landed comp or something?
