The Cape york thread has been a bit slow of late. How's everyone's preparations going?

Only have diff breathers, bullbar and long range tank left to install! Should finish the winch rebuild before the weekend is out. Other than that, I'm already packed  :D haha.

My truck is about as ready as it going to be. Was hoping to get front e-locker but funds are dwindling. Got my roof rack(dont like it looks poxy and will ditch it after this trip) new awning sorted. Will make some brackets for hi-lift and shovel at work this week.
Just need to sort out storage in the back, the rear seats are coming out so should be ok. If Jaye can fit everything in the jimny think i should have it covered ;)

Mind you I am only taking may swag (on roof), 3 packets of 2 minute noodles, a 600ml water and a long neck of Tooheys New. All of which will be restocked every day along the way. Clothes, well I will take what I can wear ;)

My rear seats will be coming out too mate. Actually you just reminded me I need to finish the barrier I made for the new fridge! Otherwise the two likely dirty mongrels in the back will end up sliding into/climbing all over the new cover

Honest question from an amateur, what do people do about clothing? Is there anywhere to wash clothes along the way? Or do you pack a solid month's worth of clean clothing?? I've never done a trip this long before!

I was wondering the same thing. Was only going for 1x warm clothes for way up and back.

Then heaps of boardies and singlets for the trails. Might have to buy a 30pk of undies:D

You will be able to do some washing at Punsand Bay and then when you get back to Cairns.

We take a plastic bottle of Washing Powder and use a bucket of water from a nearby creek and do it that way - just make sure you rinse them out well though or you will get uncomfortable really quickly with residual soap powder. Not as good as a machine but at least you are clean.

Of course, do not empty the water back into the creek - but I'm sure you know that already.

cheers

I have just spoken with Roger at Punsand Bay. We are booked in there for the 14th to the 18th June and he has agreed to put us in as a tentative for the 18th (the day we were going to be leaving).
This way if we have troubles or are just running a day late we can still have the group sites for 4 nights, or if we are loving it too much we can stay an extra day.
it just gives us that little bit of leeway ... just in case!!!!

I will be there from 30th May and joining the convoy on the 9th June when they come past. Bart (BarKer) and his mate are joining me and maybe Jaye as well will be there a few days early to have a few days of relaxing before the adventure begins.

Whats the deal with cape tribulation Rich? I envision I will be there 4 days before the rest (Jimny is a bit of a rocket) do I have to book or can I share your spot and pay when I get there? There is a ferry I believe too that I may or may not have to use, correct?

Hi mate.
just rang Cape Trib. and there's no problems for you to fit on my site if you want, you will just have to pay when you get there. It will still be $20 night (powered), they charge per head :(
be good to have you there.

The ferry is to get across the Daintree River.

If you want un-powered, there is an awesome camp site right at the waters edge "Noah Camp Ground" I think it's called. $6 per night.

Rick, should catch up, I am up in Julatten not far from Mossman, you are welcome to camp at mine for a night or two if you have the time. Also, for those that need, at Mt Molloy, there is a camp ground with septic dump, gold coin donation.

Hi mate.
I would love to catch up for a beer and a chat.
I have booked my site from the 29th May to 9th June, i will send a PM and get your number.
I don't mind paying the $20 per night as I know that Cape Trib. Campground is quite nice and right on the beach and I get power as I wont be driving very much while I'm there:)
When I was up there 5 yrs ago I actually booked a few nights at Noah Beach. I drove in, looked around and drove out. It is right on the beach BUT the sites are in amongst the mangroves:eek::eek: mozzie paradise, no sun and damp. Drove up the road and stayed at Cape Trib. Camping.
