Unless your towing a dodgy trailer I wouldn't bother unless it is one of the "Bush Welders" that takes up no room and isn't heavy or your just taxing your 4by power & economy. QUOTE]

I'm towing a dodgy trailer. Dodgy as in I welded most of it together. The welder is only a baby stick welder that weighs about 4 kg and takes up no more room than half a case of stubbies, if that. I'd rather be able to make a dodgy repair than have to skull drag a trailer 100ks.

all good mate, not having a go a ya.....just saying over 1000km's of corrugations... that shit will fall apart, anyway even the best camper trailers have a hard time,...have spare wheel bearings & tyres are a must.let alone your own spares for your rig.. otherwise swag/tent it so much cheaper...as soon as you hit the red dirt drop all pressures to at least 28 psi and speed to 60-90 no faster you will flog out your tyres. just trying to help mate...:)

Im still tossing up whether to take a second spare for the patrol.

Dont have a dual wheel carrier so it will end up on the roof rack which i dont really wont.

From those who have been before what would you do.

I was running mtz's....not one puncture not a thing..& i went a lot of unmarked tracks up there, no dramas wang...i got beach bogged right on a peninsula with a dirty big croc looking at me, no one in sight for miles..with the tide coming in i was shitting myself,no where to winch off the panic was getting worse..I use everything i had extension strap, snatch strap, & winch rope before i got a suitable scrub tree to pull me out..it was a pucker moment..the tide was up to the half way up the wheel arches by then..2 way contact was null & void i was more than 8km, from anyone.. just remember be self sufficient...i got out only just...

p.s not the only time, CREB track is not to be ****ed with...

that's another story...haha

Personally I wouldn't bother with 2 spares up there if it means putting 50kg on the roof.
IF you get a puncture we can plug it. IF you shred a tyre then we get by until the next place to get another... unlikely IMO. Besides, we can probably switch between other vehicles if really needed.
We have a good group with plenty of experience.... we will be fine (famous last words lol).

It's all good. Im actually towing a boat up!!! I've been known to do stupid things in the past, this may well be added to the list.. The trailers not finished yet, but if it doesn't pass my stringent off road tests when it is, I'll just leave it at home. I like a challenge though

I was thinking along those lines too. But always like to be self sufficient.

I dont really want anything on the roof. Was only going to throw the swag and sleeping gear up there when doing the deep crossings:) just in case

Well, I was going to work on the truck this weekend being a long weekend and all, but a big night at the pub, next day for recovery and today was a big ride on the bike, so I did nothing...

Waiting for a one-way air valve for the air as I fitted the compressor in one of the undertray tool boxes which feeds the little 9Ltr air tank I got mounted under the tray..

Got to order some 16" rims from down south and then maybe some cheap arse CF-3000 muddies from Chinaland which I can get locally for a good price.. Altho, I'll probably end up with pricey KM2's so I can at least say I have run them once..

Also, might make a bracket to fit a solar panel as we got a few days of lazying around and as I am running 2 fridges I don't want to run of Amps..

Keen as for mud crabs, if the boat makes it on the trip with us, I'm filling it with crab traps!:cool:

I'm taking a few traps as well. If Vrylia Point is anything like Cape Melville we didn't need the traps, as the mud crabs walked around in the shallows we lured them up to the edge with bait on a fishing line then scooped them out!!!!
