Cape York - 2015!

I hadn't heard that about the Bruce, but we do jump on there just north of Townsville after we pick up Bart....

If I have to I can meet you guys in Charters towers or Cairns etc, that is not a prob.. If you guys do come through Townsville, then there is always the option of crashing overnight at my place as I am 5 min's from the Bruce Highway.. Enough room to park the trucks and roll out the swags... We'll find a spot for kids and parents inside..

So I'm thinking of taking the bike instead of my truck. Does anyone with experience up there have thoughts for or against?
Also if I do I would probably be looking for someone who is interested in towing a trailer to cairns and a spare seat. More than happy to split the fuel. Maybe somewhere to throw some gear.
Any one in a ute going up solo?

Oh should add the bike has about 500km range on fire trails so fuel shouldn't be a problem.
It might actually make things a bit quicker if there is a track we need to investigate the condition of, or track down a bloke with a few dogs who camped somewhere else?

gee
go away for a few nights and the thread explodes

My summary
I vote for the pool! i may book a day extra just in case!

dogs
Back in the day when i had a dog that paid attention i would have taken him as well
the two i have at the moment no way!
happy to have a dog around camp and its up to the individual to manage their own risk

bikes
I'm going up solo phathead but have no idea as to when i am leaving yet or to the route I'm taking !
as long as I'm in cairns on time i plan on playing it by ear
Will probably go up inland as i want to stop at a few places i saw on the way down in my 2 day townsville wagga trip
Likely back via the coast
there may be a distillery that needs a visit!

Off to order the winch rope and tyre monitors!

SHane

Woohoo the rum factory... Didn't even think about it..
Do they have... Say a day spa where you can have a rum spa followed up with a rum oil massage followed up with a rum something and rum something else? And accomodation in a oversized novelty rum bottle?

My plan is, all going well, I will be leaving here on Monday 25th May. I will be taking it easy on the way and staying with friends and relatives (Caloundra, Yeppoon, Townsville and Port Douglas).
I hope to get to Cape Tribulation (Cape Tribulation Camping - Cape Tribulation) on Friday 29th May and be there for nearly 2 weeks. I will join the convoy as you come past on Tuesday 9th June.
if anyone plans on getting there early as well you know where to find me.:D

Sounds like a plan. I might go further than Yeppoon then to make it a shorter day to Townsville, get there in time for a long lunch.:D

Eungella National Park ?

I'd be too tempted to camp a couple of days though :)

Hey mate. What about the deep water crossings? Will you need people to help get the bike across? What if you come off and brake a wrist/arm/leg, how do you get out? How does the bike get out?
Hopefully someone will be able to help you out with the gear side of things, I won't be able to commit to that just yet as I haven't sorted any storage out in the Faj at all as of yet. May be able to tow the bike up though, assuming it is in good condition and won't blow a tyre or throw a bearing.

Also first post has been updated with some more stuff that isn't usually spoken about until it's too late

Hiya, you have to remember that this is not a supported motorbike ride, as in we don't have a backup vehicle with a first aid attendant and room to transport a bike, nor do we have procedures in place to get a bike out etc..

Of course a car can have the same probs as a bike. However, a car is easy to tow and for the driver there is a lot less risk of injury.. I know a bunch of people that done the cape on a bike, and every trip there is someone getting helicoptered, trucked or stretchered out..

I tried the riding a bike with 4WD-ers, but you miss out on all the UHF chatter, you don't know what is going on and end up sitting around most of the time waiting as 4WD's are so fricking slow.. (unless you drive a mighty Prado of course :) )

but, your call..

Allrightie, without trying to sound like an bumhole, I would like to remind people that this is a big trip for everyone and everyone has got different goals etc and that we all should be pretty tolerant and accepting.. Plus we are going as a group so we all can help and look after each other..

Having said that, we also must recognise that this is not a Monkey Gum, Menai or Stockton day trip.. You got to have your shit in order as this is not only a big trip for you, it is also for the rest of us.. Remember to be self-sufficient in case of worst scenario, ie: waiting for the rest to get back..

Hahaha, I do love the new addition to the first post.

All good Jase. I can handle a fair bit of sand before it needs a rinse:D.
I'm guessing you're referring to the occasions when you aren't IN your car? Can't imagine even a stray grain or two lasting long in there! haha I'm honestly not even remotely worried about getting along with people hey, and it's not often I can say that when I know I'm going to be one part of a decent sized group of people. I'm pretty convinced most of the people in this group are legends, hopefully none turn out to be "winners" once I've spent a few weeks with you all :p

Yeah very excited Rich. I been all over youtube watching cape stuff.

Pretty excited, I have mapped out my route up.should be fun and I will tick a few places off the list I haven't been to.

Ideally I would like to knock up a bit of a drawer system but I think I will run out of time.
