The best bang for buck knives I’ve ever used would be the good old Victorinox range of chefs knives............. You can’t go past a victorinox. I’ve had a few kicking about in my kit for years.
I've had a Victorinox Swiss Army Multi-Tool Pocket Knife (Huntsman?) for the past 40 years. And it was s/h when it fell into my hands. Used regularly for all sorts of things over time and it's still going. It lives in my 4X4. They cost a bit these days, but quality usually does.

So your going to process firewood with the same knife you want to prep food with o_O

I mean I am a chef so probably think different about knives but apart from cooking I also 'process' game animals when Im out so I carry a knife roll with 4 knives & a diamond steel- 20-30cm chefs knife, 25cm filleting knife, 17cm boning knife 7cm paring knife(all blade length).
They are mainly knives I have retired from my professional career & not that phased about breaking them but would probably cost $150 to replace all 4 with new similar versions.
Stores like Victoria's basement or Peters of Kensington do great deals on knives/set that would be ideal for a bush set.

If you want a knock about knife that you can hit with a hammer to get kindling well Id be looking more at a small hatchet, if it was going to be a knife then something cheap like this would do me-

I have so many knives but apart from my small kit for cooking this is what I usually take with me on a trip

I was just looking at the Opinel knives and see you have one. https://www.tentworld.com.au/buy-sale/opinel-no8-knife-carbon-steel
What do think?
I am looking along the lines of having in your pocket when going for a wander with a fishing rod in hand

I actually have 2 Opinel no.7's, both were gifts.

To be honest they are not a robust knife in their design imo & not one I would buy for myself.

My knife collection has expanded since then but for me most of the time the Leatherman will be on my hip.

Personally I like folders with inner metal frames, composite handles & that have better pins/fixings & locking mechanisms that the Opinel's.

Just my 2 cents.

I have one also. They are a classic French winemaker’s knife. Mine gets used for cheese.
Being carbon steel they don’t really lend themselves to outdoor pursuits with blood, guts and salt.
I have a folding stainless steel fillet knife with a rubber handle I use on the kayak which would be better for fishing. It’s just a bcf special.
