Just wanted to share some stories of my adventures of trying to buy a 4wd.

Well the first car sales yard did a tag team, "have to talk to the manager mate" yadda yadda yadda.. anyways cause of the backwards and forwards, they could not offer a good deal and off i walked, but lost almost 2 hours to there stupidity and advice.

Second car sales dude-

He was funny, Telling me how he's boss was a pedo and he was a f***ing Jew and all that kind of stuff. Telling me the best torrent sites and how when he was younger he got done for hacking BNZ. After that he starts talking to me about World of warcraft.. Crazy..

3rd was a private sale.. Guy did not turn up and left his father to try to sell me the car.. WHO DIDN'T SPEAK ENGLISH. Quite hard to get information i tell you, and then the guy i originally sp[oke to calls me about 30 mins after and tries to tell me i should buy it.

Man Patrols seems to attract idiots or am i just having a bad run!!

Hey mate,

We spent a lot of time wandering around used car yards. We heard lots of stories, nah mate never been offroad, yeah, this is such a bargain it will go really quickly. The annoying thing is we saw a really nice Patrol when we weren't looking for a Patrol, so I went home to do a bit of research and it sold! You just need to do your research. With most of them it isn't too hard to know more than the salesmen.

Logitec, mate, go to the auctions with someone who knows about 4x4's and grab one from there. Less hassle than dealing with car salesman.

If you want a couple of yards that I know we can trust, PM me.

I saw this hilux on carpoint, looked awesome for the price he was asking, so i drove from melbourne to bendigo to have look. The car looked brand new, no scratchers, engine looked alright, the guy selling it was a machanic, so i though he must service it regularly and maintain it. so took for a test run, everything went smoothly, i was ready to hand over my hard earned, but thought i should get it checked by a local machanic just to make sure everyjthing was in good working order (As i wouldn't have a clue really!)

Then i mentioned the name of the machanic to the seller and it was his mate so i thought this could be a bit dodgy.

Anyway the report came back and everything on the car was screwed, brakes, bearings you name it, i would've had to of spent another $10,000 to get it up to working order, yet if i hadn't of taken it to the machanic i wouldn't have known:confused:

Private Sale v's Used Car Lot...

Just recently purchased my 88 'lux. First I had a look at a unit in a car yard. The ad in the paper looked good, rocked up to the yard and in person she looked very rough. Took it for a test drive and the clutch was buggered. But the funniest part of the whole experience was the speil I got when I told them I was off to look at some others. "You won't find any as good as this for the price", "they will all be full of rust on blowing smoke", "I'll knock $1000 off and you can get the clutch fixed yourself", yadda yadda yadda :D Typical pressure sales tactics.

Then off to a private sale from the trading post. Got the full run down from the bloke selling it. It was listed as a regretful sale (moving interstate), and judging by the way the guy went into every detail, I could tell he was genuine. We even did a 5 km test drive just to get to a dirt car park so we could lock the hubs to make sure everything was good. This was the beast I ended up buying.

The whole experience just re-affirmed my beliefs about buying used vehicles from car yards, and the type of individual that usually seems to work there :p. I'm sure there are some decent used car salesmen out there, but they never seem to work at places I go shopping!

any one who buys any second hand vehicle from a car yard should do the following things:

1. Get it inspected before signing contracts or make the inspection part of the terms of the contract
2. Get REVS and V check to check for encumbrences and if ever in statutory or repairable write offs or water damage.
3. Buy with head and not heart

I deal in complaints about car salesmen and dealerships and so many of these would not occur if people got these cars inspected before purchase.

My Son went to look at a GQ at Portland vic and we live over 5 hours south of it, sounded good on the phone he wanted 8k for it. I told my son to take a deposit of $500 just in case it was any good. Any way he gets there that morning after staying in Portland that night to see the Gq, my sons a mechanic and still on his p only a few moths to go. He rings me and said is there any way we can transfer money so he can bring the car back, and it was all to hard being Sunday and a long weekend. Hour or so later he rings me and he was able to transfer 3k into the guys bank on there computer and a balance of 4500k to be paid. And the guy gave him a full tank of diesel and sent him home in it, and said put the money in his account on Tuesday being a long weekend. So it put my faith back in to man kind, and i don't think i could have done that letting a p plater and his girlfriend take my car owing 4500k on it. But he must of sussed my boy out and thought it was the worth the chance. A bit of a long winded story, but a good one. Cheers Rob
