Bunyip State Forest. Track Closures.

I went to go camping in Bunyip State Forest in the first/second week in January, also hoping to do some more 4x4 as well, only to find that the tracks have been closed to vehicle access and converted to walking/bicycle tracks:(. I had maps fresh from the Parks Victoria website that had the tracks listed, rocked up with the family and 4x4, to find no access to tracks allowed. I drove all the way around the State forest, same result. Ended up going to Moondarra State Park, and had a blast.

So, if 4x4 action is what you want/need, dont go to Bunyip State Forest, unless nice dirt roads do it for you.......:mad:

Dirt roads are too tame.. Bring on the tracks database, will make knowing this stuff so much easier.. And "Boooo!" to Parks Victoria for not updating the tracks

That is interesting. I was speaking to Parks Vic yesterday and we spoke about Bunyip SF. It is a pilot for the track classification program that they are working on with 4WD Victoria. I will try and get out there this weekend and have a look at it, but that is a shame if it is the case, becuase some of the tracks at Bunyip are great fun.

It was where we lost our Recovery Virginity, 2.5 hours, lots of digging, jacking up two wheels and the help of a friendly motorbike rider. :)

Bunyip State Forest tracks are open

Hi,

I have just gotten back from Bunyip and the tracks are open. I went part way up the Andersons track and the all around the Nash Creek loop track.

Hopefully next time we will do Bunyip Ridge and Little Bunyip track. Does anyone know how difficult they are? I am in a Patriot, so clearance is a bit iffy.

Well, what a bummer. Everytime I went to go to the tracks, they had gates that were shut>
There were also a Patrol, and a 4Runner that could not access the tracks as well. They told me to go to Walhalla, but as I had been there last time, and wanted to try something new, I went to Moondarra. The clown in the 4Runner was going to try and make his own track, until me and the guy in the Patrol said that we will drag him back if he did!!!! Some people should not have 4x4's.

Might have to organise a Saturday trip with you to see these tracks, I really want to try them. I have heard you talk about them, and as they are not far from home, seems like just the biz to try.

Centaur, I should clarify, all of the tracks that are normally open were open. All of the tracks on the South side are closed indefinately, but Nash's loop track, and Andersons track were all open.

All tracks south of Ash Landing Tk are closed to 4x4 and motorbikes too I beleive. Open to walkers only. The idea of this was to try to relocate 4x4 and motorbikes to the northern part of the forest and allow walkers only access to southern areas. This came from Parks Victoria person at Gembrook.
Happy to show you around sometime.
