Border Ranges

Hi All

Quick question, I am wanting to do a quick trip form Brisbane to the Border Ranges, but only want to do part of the trip and head back, I want to get a few people together to do some water crossing and a small trip but the people coming don't have the hole day.

Can anyone suggest a short route , or is not possible ?

Thanks in advance for your help

Exactly what part of the Border Ranges you want to do?

It does not matter personaly, I was just looking at a option of reducing the time to make it a half day tip - but nnot knowing the track well I am not sure what part we can leave out to reduce the track distance or where to start and end to enable this.

Please let me know your thoughts ?

Thanks

There isn't really ANY 1/2 day option from where you are based. Condamine Gorge as Brian has suggested is kinda as close as you'll get to the Border Ranges. Your other option is to head down Lions Rd to The Risk and shoot in to the Mebbin Forest area. There are some really nice views of the West Face of Mt Warning but this run is a really full day trip and that is if you know exactly where you are going.

Hi...if you have a look at the photo section there is a pic of Brummies rd. I took that photo. It's just out of Tyalgum in Nth NSW. it is dependent on whether the gate is locked but could be a great 1/2 day trip sorry can't tell you who to ring to see if the gate is open or not, I just take a punt when I go.

Mebbin was mentioned also in the thread, it's a nice drive it's between Nimbin and Murwillumbah, the turn off is just past Uki.

The border ranges NP can be driven from the Kyogle end or from the Nimbin end. A nice drive though for people from Brissy maybe not a 1/2 day drive. by the way Brummies is a dead end you'll have to turn around to come back out, but once off the track there is an alternate route back to Tyalgum.

Not sure if your able to still get in and around Mt Cotton, that would be your closest but its been years since i';ve been there. Another option is to come out with us this comming Sunday. Definately a 1/2 day run if you want it to be!

Hi Curtly

Thanks for that information - I think you have hit the nail on the head with that tip, great part of the world and always green and lots of bush, l will make a note of that and with the new motorway makes it a quick tip down to Mimbin , yes a fall day for sure but a good tip, do you have any GPS coordinate’s for that tip at all ?

Thanks again.

Van Axe,
All the information for the run to Ripleys Rd this sunday 23rd, is in the SEQLD trips section, under 'Day Run Sunday 23rd of May'. Should be a good day, fair few of us going and you will get to meet some of the more 'famous' members of this site. Good opportunity to introduce yourself in person. Hope to see you there

Not really anything too bad Curt. Im pretty stock and i went out there on my own without much experience and didnt find any problems. There is one really rutted track leading down to the right off the main entrance about 200m in and that can be a bit hairy, but you dont have to go down it.
Its actually private land in there and we talked to a bloke that was doing some work there and he said that the area wont be open for much longer. They are putting a residential estate there or something. and that was a couple of months ago. So get in quick!

Hey Hogo.......A houseing development on the Goldi..nnahhh never gonna happen;) I know what you mean. I'll head down tomorrow, the reason i ask about it is I'll have my 2 young sons with me and while my eldest loves the 'bumpity' the littlest one is still a boit unsure, thou7gh he's normally asleep within minutes of airing down:D
