Black smoke

Hi all
New here and to 4x4ing
Brought a pb challenger and now blows black smoke on acceleration. Cleaned maf sensor and changed air filter. Just put nylon fuel system extreme clean in tank. How long till I notice a difference in smoke? Hopefully this works before I have to take to mechanic to check injectors. Also I have a catch can

Gday
2 things you will need.
1- air intake manifold clean
2- a prove to catch can to stop oil getting back into air intake.

Sorry missed the last line of your post lol
I had the same problem with my one before I got a catch can and ripped off the air manifold and gave it a good clean took a lot of soaking and scrubbing to get all the black crud out of it, also give the EGR valve a good clean up as well.

Thanks mate. Was thinking of an egr delete, was you having black smoke issues before you cleaned the air manifold and did this stop ot

Yep it did.
good clean and catch can helped, very little now only on full throttle but hay it’s a diesel it’s going to do that :)
I did not go down the EGR blank/delete line.

The black smoke is from too much fuel.
In the case of cars with EGR, its not enough air for the fuel being dumped into the chamber, so cleaning out the intake system between where the EGR vents back into it and the head should make it a lot better.
Its a filthy job.

Thanks mate. The intake system was cleaned 6000km ago when timing was done

As @Hoyks said, black smoke is caused from a high fuel to air mixture, so if you have changed the air filter and cleaned the air intake then the next place to look is injectors. Good luck

These things are also electronically & computer controlled via the CPU.

If you can take it to someone who actually knows what they are doing they can run a diagnostic & adjust the fuel/air ratio's accordingly.

Not saying you may not have intake/carbon build up either but its not the only answer here!

I had a similar issue with my triton once, they plugged it into the PC, made a few adjustments & 10 minutes later running like normal.
