Best Snorkel for a Wrangler

Hello,

After our adventures out at Skipworth's, specifically the river crossing, I need a Snorkel. What is the best kind to get for a Wrangler? I have heard that the Safari is a bit complicated given the position of the air filter. Does anyone know of any alternatives?

Cheers,

James

Can't go wrong with a safari tried and trusted. What are the guys on Ausjeep saying? Want us to jump over and ask the question for you :rolleyes::rolleyes:

I'm going to go for the AEV snorkel (now also branded as MOPAR as well as a cheap eBay copy), mainly because it fits straight on to the standard intake (after you cut a hole in the bonnet).

Fitting the Safari snorkel involves a complicated connection that is quite a bit lower than the standard intake - asking for trouble in my opinion.

I didn't want to cut any holes in the wrangler but being an auto I am plumbing a pipe from the side of the air box in through the firewall where the clutch pedal would be in to under the dash. I will cap it off & only open it for a water crossing. Suits what I want

Bri, if you cap it off where will your airflow come from when you're not doing a water crossing? Is there a problem with having it open all the time. I've heard of a few people going for the under dash alternative, and they seem quite pleased with the result.

As I am making a new access hole in the side of the air box I am planning to make a removable plug for the original air intake & just block it up for water crossings. I have thought of leaving it open inside but some people have suggested some fumes may come into the cabin but this is something I will have to check when it is finished. Some people have also plumbed the airbox into the plenum chamber but that would cause problems if the water is over the bonnet.

Having siad that I have done many deep water crossings where the water has flooded the air box & so far I have survived (touch wood)
