bench test a alternater

can a simple punter like my self test a alternater at home or out in the bush too see if it is any good?
got problems electrically need to know if what I have is any good and it is out of the vehicle and sitting in the shed

Haha guess you could jerry it up to bottom of your lawn mower and spin it up and check voltage output!

Auto elecs have a special bench top machine with a belt and a special clamps to hold the alternator.
