Bad idea or not?

Hello,

My name is Chris and iam only young , 14 to be exact.
I really like 4wd and when i get older for a first car i want to get a 1998 holden rodeo.
i would like to put a 3 inch lift and 33 inch tires.

do you think this would be a waste of money?

any great help would be apprectiated.

thanks.

G'Day Chris - Holden Rodeo in my opion, is an up and coming 4wd unit. There are not a lot of them around when compared to say, Toyota. Which has been around for many years, has plenty of parts both new and second hand. Bang for buck today, you'll get a much more capable Toyota.

Having said that. You should buy what you want to drive. You have to happy with it. Just research what you want and build a table between say your Rodeo and a Toyota or Nissan.

I completly agree with Gdog look around and do some research we looked at all our options before we brought the Navara, look at price, what extras it has what the cars history is like i cant really comment on the Holden Rodaeo cause i really dont know much about them and have not really seen many of them out on 4x4 tracks i have been on. Look at what you really want it for and just because it looks good does not mean it is going to be nice to drive.

yeah, i know what you mean.
i dont think the looks department with bother me to much.

My dad works for testra and he drives all over Australia. He drives a new nissan patrol.
he says its a really nice car.
so i think i will have to investigate further.
one last question for you guys. whats a good lift ratio to tire size for say a patrol or a hilux?

Always liked the Rodeo great car like above mate theres not too many of them with lots of mods. but theres plenty of after market bits and pieces for em.
Most people stick to the "KNOWN" brands, generally if you buy a nissan first your nissan for life same goes for toyota. And both sides will try and convince you they're rite or there truck is the best, most reliable bla bla bla.
Best thing to do mate get yourself some cash set yourself a budget, set yourself a budget for mods, and drive as many different 4WD's as you can. Pick the one that you like the best and go bush.
Good luck mate.

Mate, Your 14. You've got tonnes of time to check out what trucks will do what and what looks cool! Besides, ya gunna change your mind as often as ya change GIRLFRIENDS, are'nt ya!!

Good boy, at least you're on the right track, TRUCKS before CHICKS!!:rolleyes:

Mate if i change my mind as much as i change girlfriends.

i dont think there is enough 4wds on the market, i'd be running outta cars.

thanks guys.

Bit of a ladies man are ya Chris hehe!!!! You might have to take you dad or something with you when you go looking cause i dont know if many car dealers would let someone who has just got there licence take a whole lot of different cars for test drives some of them are a bit funny about it. Im 30 bro and some of them were even strange with me taking them for a drive. Dont let them talk you into a particular truck cause they will try make your own mind up with what you are comfortable with.

Ckicky Chris, they don't all have to be 4by's!! You've got micra's, mini's, masaratie's, It should take 10 years to test drive the whole range!! Don't rush into anything.

well if you got that many on the go you might want to get a landcruiser to keep up with your fast life style

It's not the Toyota thing, They just remind us of the Ex wives. Expensive, Loud, VERY unreliable and think their fumes don't stink!!

hahahahahahaha

Go for it Chris. Rodeo's are very much a competent vehicle and you'll have lots of good times in it. Also, good on you for researching/checking with places like this site for advice before jumping into the deep end because there is a lot of wisdom in these pages. It's great to see your as keen as you are. You should ask for a couple of 4X4 Earth stickers for your Rodeo, when you get it.
