I have seen one and they look really good. I have a 110ltr Waeco and we are wanting a smaller one as well so we are considering the ARB one as well as the waeco one. They look really good!

Hope they work better than the Engel, I saw an Engel against the Waeco on the Dog Run and the Waeco out performed the Engel hands down with the heat we had, the Engel struggled to keep food cold where the Waeco kept icecream (I know! Who wants icecream camping, kept the Beer really cold too) frozen.

Really - the only time we have had trouble was in SA in 40 deg heat when it was under the torneau cover. put it in the shade under a tree took the cover off to give it some air and down she came.

We had just loaded it up to which would not have helped.

Engel VS Waeco

I did a 3 month trip soem years ago - I had an engel without a second battery - NO WORRIES at all worked well - did not letme down.

Mate had a WAECO - with a second battery (obvioulsy not a good battery set up) but woke to many flat batteries and ruined fridge contents.

Waeco have a battery saving setting, you can activate so you don't drop your battery volts under a pre-set level, Engel do not, it's an option you can buy to add on to your Engel.
He should have read the manual.

I'm not going to get into the age old dispute, about Engel V Waeco, I have both brands and both have their own merits.

I also like Toyota AND Nissans, whats wrong with me ?? I am open minded !

Any fridge that needs a battery to run overnight will cause issues on a single car battery. Either use a 3-way fridge or add a second battery which can be seprated from your main cranking battery. A simple relay to switch off the charging if the engine isn't running and wiring to the back of the 4by is useful. If you are doing this all the time, getting a aux battery fitted would be better.

With the exception of engel, most 12 volt fridges use the Danfoss BD35 Compressor. My 35 litre Waeco has the same compressor as some of the boating and caravan fridges that are 130 litres. From what I can work out, the difference in the power counsumption comes down to the amount of insulation applied. from all accounts it is a very good compressor, just how it is used is what defines how good the fridge is. seriously considering fitting a fridge with a door in the back of may car, A lot cheaper than the car chest frdges and my research has pretty well debunked the thought of loosing cold air all the time.
