Another one bites the dust.

People seemed to love her, sending her flowers etc. She lost her job for corruption.
Can’t they see that
Obviously you, and a few others, believe in 'guilty until proven innocent'.... Same goes for those who have already condemned her for telling the truth in that 'everyone does it' in regard to pork barreling. At least she had the honesty to tell the truth, as 99% of pollies will tell you that pork barreling doesnt occur...... Fact is EVERY party does it, whether it be Premiers or Prime Ministers; all part of politics.

ICAC may find she has a case to answer, I doubt it, but what it has done is destroy her career, as it has done to many others, when in the end they have been found guilty of nothing. Some say she only resigned because she had something to hide; go back to what she said at her press conference. She made it clear that if any of her Ministers were being investigated by ICAC or other authorities, they had to stand down until the investigation concluded, whatever the outcome. As Premier, she had no choice but to resign as she and nobody else, knows how long this investigation will take; maybe years.., and she did not want to put the state in a position of uncertainty, especially with what is happening with Covid.

Yes, I may be wrong in that a mistake she has made in her personal life has cost her the career she loved, there are many pollies, federal and state, who have done far worse than her. We can all bag politicians and say they all tell lies, have their 'snouts in the trough' etc but would any of you want their jobs?. There are good and bad people in all aspects of life/business etc, as a politician she comes across as one of the 'better ones'.

She resigned. She wasn't forced out. That indicates something, assuming she wouldn't resign for no reason at all. The same goes for Barilaro.

Put your red flag away for bit and use some common sense. How well do you think she could carry on as Premier whilst this is all going on? How many questions do you think she would get about covid at a covid press conference. How well do you think the state could move forward whilst the media is rampant with their repetitive "gotcha" questioning?
At a different time she may have been able to weather it out but not in the current crisis. She has taken the only decent course of action.

ICAC has done nothing to destroy her career, Gladys resigned on her own with no one forcing her hand. If you think ICAC shouldn't be looking at her as a person of interest given what went down with Maguire you are deluded. If they didn't they wouldn't be doing their job.

ICAC also do not decide guilt or innocents they look at facts and if the facts on the balance of probability look dodgy they refer it to the DPP who then make their own determination as to if a criminal case needs to be opened.

There is only one reason a Politician in my opinion not only steps down but also resigns entirely from parliament when they are a person of interest and that is to protect their entitlements. If they get done as a sitting member they lose their pension and all entitlements if they are a private citizen at the time they keep them.

Keep that in mind when looking at these things. ICAC doesn't destroy careers, people behaviour does.

Agree that it would've been difficult for her to remain as premier.

If questions came her way then the media would've been doing it's job.

She could've stepped down as premier and let her deputy take over, gone to the back bench, not resigned. That is not what she decided to do.

I don’t know if guilty or innocent but can you imagine the pressure this will put on her or anybody in that position and then add to that running a state in Covid and bushfires and floods previously

The personal toll would be significant and retiring would feel a reasonable course of action regardless of whether you have a case to answer or not.

O
Now we have a fruit cake christian nutjob running thing`s.

Let`s all go back too the 50`s, yea har.
his religious beliefs are not relevant to whether he can do the job providing he goes down the path a conscience vote for any matter that may be influenced by his beliefs.
it’s his views on climate change that are of a bigger concern, he is the last thing that Australian politics needs right now

What he believe`s will influence every decision he make`s for the state.
It he`s already said he doesn`t think abortion should be legal.
No same sex marriage, as you say climate change.

Nope sorry fruit cake special.

I would say the rest of the party will keep him in check in general, they are not going to let him sabotage their ratings with polarised views

Don't agree, any decision that his religious beliefs will influence such as end of life rights, abortion same sex marriage etc will go to a conscience vote so his opinion will be one of many, as it should be.
His views on climate change policy have nothing to do with religion and what that entails and those views could and will influence what direction he leads the party

If it wasn't for Christian 'do gooders' influencing government policy, we wouldn't have one of the best social welfare systems in the world, then there is the homeless shelters, soup kitchens, lifeline services etc etc. All the good things done by religious organisations are forgotten in the anger generated by the bad things that have happened in churches or schools, unfortunately. The good ones do things for the benefit of their fellow man generally, so let's hope the new guy is one of those.

Was that unions or religion doing the heavy lifting there?

Plenty of people with no religion do good things also. Religion or not has zero influence on whether or not you are a good person, or an average person doing good things.

Religion has been used to justify some pretty ordinary actions through out history. Taking indigenous people from their lands and indoctrinating them for example. I can't think of having no religion being used to justify anything.

Edit - agree, religion has done good things also. The Sikhs seem to turn and feed everyone whenever the poop hits the fan these days. It's not all bad news.
