All Terain Tyres

Just about any radial or light truck grade AT tyre should do you for light duties.
Probably Maxxis would suit, usually good pricing and value with how they wear.
Something like the Maxxis AT-700 is great on road, and excellent in sand and general terrain . . . not for playing in mud though.
The MA- 751 is another option from that mainmenu.

Hi,

I am looking for a good quality, light duty, all terain tyre. Suggestions?

Hi, I have BF Goodrich which I think are fantastic, but I think really its like your either a holden or a ford fan as all the popular brands, you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference imo
cheers

Yoko Geolander in the LT. Good tread depth and perform better than they look but they look good!

As stated above you will get a lot of opinions on this one, I run the BFG and would recommend them but our our work ute runs the Bridgestone 697 which seem pretty good, mates run the coppers and rate them etc......

I am not knocking Cooper's too much, but why are they called "rubbish", in the outback ?
Cooper's 80,000km Warranty, is as good as Warnes.
Read the fine print

I'll stick with my BFG AT's

Coopers warranty is a waste of time
Bridgestone D697 is dependent on the truck and sizing (I have been informed by the Bridgestone Rep for SA that they are good for 45000km max on a pathfinder/navara because it is too powerful and engine...

Other than that I can't help you...my next set are going to be BFG's because everyone i know who had them got a really good run out of them, or wranglers as the local businesses down here are all stockists so i can support the local mob

Les, I've been unhappy with the AT 700 in that the sidewalls seem to get cut or damaged very easily, I've lost 2 prematurely where other tyres like Geolander AT-S haven't had issues. Otherwise a good tyre. Maybe I've been unlucky but I don't normally have sidewall issues. Cheers.

Have been happy with D693, D679 and Geolandar AT/S AT (passenger construction).

AT covers a range of tread patterns though; the D693 for example was more like a HT so better for sand.

If you want a "premium" tyre, actually made in Japan, at a reasonable price, you can't go past Toyo.
They are reasonably easy to get as well, which can be an important consideration.
The OPAT (Open country all terrain) is the one you want.

Bridgestone 697LT. Great tyre. Good on and off road. Good longevity.

I have just fitted four of these after a lot of research.

The advice I got from a cocky on the Yorke Peninsula was to make sure that light truck is stamped on the tyre.
The two I liked were the Mickey Thompson STZ's and the Bridgestone 697's.

Make sure you shop around, the 255 65 17" Bridgestone 697LT varied from $280 to $389.

Bob Jane have got the 265 65 17" out for $269 but they wanted another $100 each for the 255's, !!.

Got the 255's at a Bridgestone outlet for $280 each, only had to get four as I kept my 255 H/T as a spare.
Had I gone with the MT's I would have had to buy five 265's as they don't do a 255 STZ.

Bottom line was $$$ and light truck.

I hope your happy with them. Apparently these 697 replaced the old 694. My last set of them I got 84000klms. They would of been still road worthy as I don't run my tyres down to slicks. The last set as with this set I run 45psi all round even putting the caravan on for trips away. Had them bagged out at 14psi for two weeks when I was in Robe on holidays. Very happy with them. I'll see how these 697lt go for long wearing

Hope your happy.

I ran coopers AT3 on hideous dirt roads with rock covered loose layers , never received a puncture or tread damage , not a open tread pattern.

Coopers mud tyres get a bad wrap in NT because they don't have the 80k warranty. they don't travel on mud because the morons that buy them drive on rock and bitumen . In the wet season it rains so much most dirt roads become unpassable so Why do these people bother . Its not just coppers . morons bag out maxis bighorn and other open tread patterns . Mud tyres are best suited to Tasmania and coastal areas of Australia close to home were its often greezy off road . NT is not like this its either rock hard corrugated or unpassable

Now none of the morons ever blame them self for the wrong tyre choice ever. No man ever does. If everyone bought AT tyres there would be hardly a bad word against any brand .

Now what they should be buying for rock and stones ,sand is a tread pattern more like the maxis 751 in which a mate has just done most of the big desert tracks , Kimberley's, lap around Australia with a few zig zags and other trips across the gulf lawn hill and over to the Gib river area with one of the cheapest tyres on the market . All up about 50k worth of driving with the tyres still being suitable for off road and not yet down to car tyre tread depth.

Tread pattern has a lot to do with it . Most men cant be honest with them self or with any one else for that matter about just how often they will drive off road and how much bitumen driving they do . Then buy tyres with tread that looks tough with out considering any thing else then blame the tyre.

you have to be smart enough to ask your self , did he buy the tyre for the wrong reasons before you take his bad words as gospel

I bought a set of them in Alice springs . I consider toyo open country , maxis equivalent to out last them in kms . at least this was the out come with me .
I didn't like how fast they became car tyres and the same has happed with the Bridgestone on my Colorado from factory. I suppose this wont affect a lot of guys that do most bitumen driving as car like tread is just fine and tyres can be worn out to about 2-3mm. I ditch my tyres at 6mm. Bridgestone are great in the wet bitumen roads though and I think that's the trade off.
