Now been in Australia nearly 3.5 years and have finally got around to some off roading, (albeit fairly mild stuff!)
Currenty hacking about in an old MK Tritton dual cab, which has handled various tracks admirably.
I would like to go to the next step and get something a little more robust and with more ability than the old Triton I have been thinking along the lines of either a TDI Discovery or an 80 series Land Cruiser basically as they both wear coil springs rather than the torsion bar set up of the tritton.

Would like to know of the pro's and cons of each and other peoples views on them.
Looking forward to everyones replies!

Personally cant go far wrong with the 80 series and that's what they were meant to do. With a two inch lift and good off road tires there isn't too many places the average person cant go in one of these.

The Toyota's or Nissan's with live axle as good for major suspension lifts and the parts are easier to come by at a good price.

Out you your 2 choices, go the Toyota

Welcome to the site!
Both are good options. I drive a series 2 disco (TD5).
I would suggest the series 2 td5 (not the series 1 TDi). The td5 has more power and is more fuel efficient.
Was looking at the 80 series as I am kind of a toyota person.
As Grumpy said 2 inch lift good tyres will get you most places in either of these 4wds.
I will say that the I am very happy with the disco. It has all the mod cons and is great to drive. It does have a few down sides. It can feel a bit tippy as it stands a bit tall and is thinner than the 80. It is harder to get bigger tyres under it, 32's max with 2 inch (80 should get 33/34's with the same 2in)
Parts can be expensive.
Do your research. It all comes down to what you need (Not what you want)
The disco was the choice for me as I want a tourer that is capable of getting off road and dirty.

One last thing. Dont let anyone tell you that the disco's aren't any good. I have taken mine into a lot of the harder places and have seen the likes of GU's get stuck where I haven't.

Good luck..
