Hi guys/gals
Just sold my 99 Pathy and picked up a 96 Prado, came with bull bar, spotties, 2" lift, LPG sub tank & brand new set of Geolander-AT 31x10's. However, the 4ltr engine is taking a bit of getting used to, the lack of power is def noticable compared to the Pathy's V6 3.3 engine. Anyways, we're heading up to Fraser Is. at the end of the year so i was wondering if anyone has any experience with a 4cyl petrol in those conditions? Will i struggle up there? i realise i'm not the first person to own a 4cyl 4wd, but most 4cyl are turbo diesels.
Was thinking of putting a new exhaust in it for a bit of extra power before i head up.

cheers
Dusty

Good pick, a Prado at least. As for driving it Well, drive like you stole it.. that'll get you through the sand.:D

I don't think you will have any issues as long as you drop your tyre pressures down. The drop from a 3.3 to a 2.7L would be noticed and the Prado is a heavier 4x4. Seen other 4by's towing caravans and large trailers/boats without issues. Any 4by is going to have issues in the soft sand and chew the petrol. I have the 3.4L Prado and tyre pressure set on 20lb's and we haven't had issues. Driving through Indian Head where others were bogging themselves. The 2.7 motor is meant to have better low end torque than the 3.4, if you are suffering poor power problems it could be from a couple of areas, blocked exhaust, dirty injectors, bad/incorrect spark plugs, blocked filters ect, you noted that it runs LPG, so that could be the source of the problems also, give it a good service and all should be good, it should even blow the old Pathy's 3.3 away.
