5th gear and now third...

The Triton (MK) is starting to make noises everywhere, but the loudest one (the one i will fix first) is in the gearbox. In 5th gear it sounds like a tap thats turned on a quarter turn, and it's been getting louder. It seems the noise is begining in third too. just the gears at the top of the box. I'm guessing bearing, and will be checking the fluid levels on the weekend - and changing it i reckon.
Anyone shed any light on the situation?

I'de be guessing bearings at least, Pull it down and have a look. Only place to start.

my hilux is doing the same thing... if doesn't start making a noise in 4th you know it's 99% definatly a bearing because fourth gear is direct drive and doesn't go through the cluster. expensive to fix through toyota... not sure what sort of $$ your looking at.

Check the oil first.

Sounds like one of the bearings is falling apart and bits are starting to come off and get into other bearings, bet to get an overhaul before it damages the gears or jams in a gear.

I would suggest your in for a big bill. I wouldn't be driving it at all until the box is removed stripped and investigated.

It's up around the 280,000 mark. Took it to Robe last weekend (cup weekend) and she seems to be running ok. from Beachport to Robe with no boggings and took all the beaches!...will probably get a reco'd or at least much younger box and fit it myself me thinks, with new HD clutch.
