Talbotville 2012 - 5th Annual Victorian Gathering

Talbotville Weather

When

Thursday 15th November 2012 to Monday 19th November 2012
Some may arrive earlier and some may stay on longer.

Where

Talbotville is a large camping area situated on the Crooked River approximately 33 kilometres from Dargo in Victoria’s High Country. The campsite has a large main area, which is capable of catering for everyone attending. There are also numerous smaller camping areas stretching south along the Crooked River on the aptly named Crooked River Track.
4 wheel driving tracks are numerous, and start pretty much as soon as you leave the campground in any direction. These include South Basalt Knob, Crooked River Track, Brewery Track, Randalls Track and several others. Blue Rag and Billy Goats are also relatively close and can be done easily as part of a day trip. Scheduled drives will be occurring to these and other tracks over the weekend.

Camping Available

Talbotville is the site of an old township. It is a large camping area with one side of the site next to the Crooked River. It is fairly open and level and will provide ample area for everyone who attends.

When driving in the campsite area please try to stick to the marked tracks as much as possible. If this is not possible, please only travel slowly and in 2WD. We want to leave the campsite in the same, or a better condition than we found it.

We would also encourage picking up any rubbish you come across.
We would like to leave the site in a cleaner state than what we found it.
There is a rubbish transfer station in Dargo for proper disposal of rubbish.

Talbotville 2012 - Calendar

Geocaching Hunt

Caching Instructions

Cache locations and co-ordinates are listed here on the question and answer sheet. You will be able to locate all caches from this information, but the questions relating to the caches will not be added until just before the Talbotville 2012 gathering starts.

Caching Entry Sheet

A mud map is linked here to show relative positions of the caches around Talbotville.

Hard copies of the entry sheet, if required, will be available at the Registration Tent at Talbotville.

Other Events

Camp Oven Cook Off

A camp oven cook off will be held over Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. If you are interested in trying for the trophy this year, please let one of the organisers know and your camp oven meal will be judged.

Just ask for either Brian (Grey Ghost), Kylie (Ghost patrol), Mandy (Mans), Bruce (Croozer), Nick (Nickj), Donna (Nickj) Andrew (ShinysideUP) or Merri (Mrs Shiny).

Duck Race

This year will see the third annual running (floating) of the Duck Race. The Crooked River is not as deep or fast flowing as the Goulburn was at Skipworth, so it should be interesting.

We will again have ducks up for sale and auction. Last year we had 100 ducks, and these ran out with demand far exceeding supply. This year we are sticking with 100 ducks and these will go on sale Saturday afternoon. The last 10 or so ducks will be auctioned immediately before the race starts

All money raised will be going to a local Dargo charity or volunteer organisation.

$110.00 was donated to the Jamieson CFA from the Skipworth gathering in 2010
$450.00 was donated to the Jamieson 150th Anniversary Committee from the Skipworth gathering in 2011.

Trophies

There are trophies for The Duck Race, The Geocaching Challenge and The Camp Oven Cookoff.

These have all been kindly donated by Andrew (ShinysideUP) from Ultimate Awards in Hallam.

Count me in Dave.

You already know this, but it might be good to mention that 'South Basalt Knob tk' is 'very difficult', anyone attempting to enter Talbotville from the northern side be wary, Brewery Ck is the safer option entering from north.

Might help to mention that in the info notes somewhere as any interstate people or others looking at an alternate route coming from the north might just see it as an option on a map...not realising how steep and rough it is.

And is there a restriction on numbers? I see there are 25 spots on page one, is that the maximum?

The committee have trouble counting past 24 as there is only 24 cans in a slab so 25 is a big effort:D:D

To get to 100 they Gunna get pretty drunk

And how drunk is Gunna gonna have to get?

Sounds good to me, put me down as a maybe as not sure what will be happening by then, But since the vics came to visit us I will try my hardest to come visit you guy's. ;)

Absolutely Glen, I was thinking the same.
I wonder if we can get enough Croweaters together to hold a formal dinner too??!!
Lindsay wearing a cap with fake hair (Bill style), Des in flannel and a bow tie, Slarti in his tuxedo t-shirt, Shaggers and Leighton arm wrestling, you could wear the Kilt and Blazer, I will be rebuilding a diff in a double breasted jacket and footy shorts and of course some German backpackers with moustaches drawn on their face!!

I have put it in the diary but tradesmen do get very busy pre-christmas.
