4x4 vehicle insurance

I am sure that there is someone out thre who has a bit of experience in this area. I am looking for a good price to insure my 08 Nissan Patrol 3L CRD.

I just called YOUI and they said that they would not insure me because of the 2 inch suspension lift.

I do 12000km per year - the car is losked up either in the garage at home or in the car park at the office, so almost zero chance of the vehicle being stolen. I do about 4 customer meeting per week, about 20km round trip.

I do a trip away about once a month either acrooss to the islands or a 4wd park.

I suppose I am only really looking for insurance to cover me in the event of a serious accident - not to worried about the smaller scuffs and scratches.

Any suggestions?

Try Suncorp, I have my Prado insured with them and happy to cover as long as you notify them of the mod's

I only recently checked my insurance to see if its covered off road (should of checked that before hand) but relieved to find thats its fully covered with the only exemption is that its not covered during competitions.

Im with AAMI all my mods are listed and im under 25 and its still quite cheap.

Try TCIS or DGA they are both brokers for 4x4 insurance. They maybe able to do something with the low k's.

Cheers

Just recently got insurance through DGA (Kylies 4wd Insurance) (Underwritten by Allianz?)
Full off road cover (Drive through the bush if you want or up any beach) except for comps.
Really happy with the service and price..

Hope this helps..

PM DAZZA76 or Paul4Nat. Both guys have the specific insurance you are looking for. They are real happy.

Hey, I have been trying to find a company that will do insurance for all of the 4x4earth community. We now have 8,500 members, but still can't find anyone that specialises in 4WD insurance and who is looking to partner with us :(

Contact TCIS they offer a deal to club members maybe you use that as your in.

The big thing with 4x4 insurance is geographical boundaries most of the normal insurers limit the places you are insured and also struggle with insuring accssories.

I Guess the first Question is "Who on the forum will actually change their insurance if you do make a deal with a set insurance company"?

I think thats a question you want to look into before ringing anyone...

I tried TCIS first. They could only offer Allianz who in turn would not rgognize the Chev. Payout value was about $13K. I was already with them. Shannons gave me an agreed figure of $33K including the Chev and accessories. I'm covered everywhere. Beaches, bush, 4x4 parks and comps if I notify them and pay and extra premium. Cover is $950 per year. They had no issue with the Chev or ather mods. Very easy to deal with.

The problam with brokers is, alot of insurance companies won't deal with brokers. I use a broker for all of my bussiness trucks and plant but the Patrol, he could'nt find anything close to what I got.

It pays to shop around.

That's it Frosty, you just got to shop around.

I'm with RACQ which were hundreds of $ cheaper than Suncorp, AAMI and Shannons when I got my quotes. But it seems others are happy with those insurers, and it wouldn't surprise me to ring on another day and get a completely different quote either for some reason.

I have all my mods, over 15K worth on a standard comprehensive policy which insures me to go anywhere I choose off road, even 4x4 parks. They draw the line on illegal mods and competition which makes sense.

I am 39, had a 5K incident last year in another car, and currently my insurance cost me $639.40 for the Plough. BUT we also have the wifes 03 focus and house and contents with the same insurer. I guess a bit of loyalty brings down costs, but something to keep in mind when trying to comparing apples with apples.

Every vehicle is different. As in my case, a few just said no!! I did expect to pay a higher premium because of what it is. And different postcodes make a huge difference!!

Mine is rather high now, imagine if I lived near Yobboland???

i have been with TCIS for a few years.... so had dad and very good..... best advise i can give is check to make sure they cover water damage and australian island/closed courses....

closed corsed are 4wd parks/comps as many will not cover this or water damage... i know comps are a extra on TCIS..... but i bet you will find a 4wd park is same....

most only cover fire trails and desiginated dirt roads

RACV say as long you do not exceed the capibilities of the vehicle and are not in comps and are on roads or tracks (IE offroad is in a padock or a place where there is no formed track) then I am covered.

RACQ does agreed value and they take your word on the accessories. If car is stolen, all you need is a few pickies to prove what was on the vehicle.

they cover you australia wide, except racing or comps. Few insurers will insure a modified 4x4 vehicle for what it is worth? Mine is insured for more than I paid second hand, and RACQ set the value not me? Yes, it costs me a couple of hundred extra each year, but good peace of mind?

http://www.racq.com.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0003/52626/Motor_Vehicle_PDS_RCMV2_10-09_02.pdf

you will notice in teh PDS that RACQ exclusions are very specific and if you drown your car doing something stupid it will probably not be covered - ie going around the rocks at Rainbow Beach or plowing through a deep puddle. However if it is storm damage, you are covered.

i also cannot find anything in the PDS that suggests that a claim will be denied off road, unless the vehicle is being used for a purpose other than what it was designed for, which is a bit open?

obviously a 2wd car or ute on the beach would be a good example?

If you drive a 4x4 on a track designed for 4x4 activities, you should be safe?

Unless you have an illegal lift kit or some reason why the vehicle could be classified as un-roadworthy??? Probably covers most of us I guess???

Have been with RACQ for 15 years and never ever had a problem with a claim, and have always had a modified car, or cars?

Hi,

I'm with AAMI as well and actually over 10 years... I have advised them of every thing that I have done to my 05 Patrol... chip, exhaust, tyres, lift, drawers, fridge etc..... all covered and with the option of increasing the agreed value to match what I have spent on my accessories too...

I have always been happy with them..... I'm 34 yrs old:D

Cheers!
