4x4 Rust

Have a ‘01 105 series cruiser with a rust problem in the roof. There’s a patch of rust that is about 7x2cm with a hole that’s about 1cm large (photo attached). I’ve heard a mechanic/ panel beater can write the vehicle off if the rust is bad. Just wondering if it’s there’s any chance of it being written off based on this small hole in the roof?

otherwise it’s a very mechanically sound vehicle. Would be very appreciative of some advice on this

No that will never be deemed as a write off but the question is why is there rust in that section, what repairs have been done and where else is there rust.
As far as I know that is not a usual spot for rust in a 105

That's not a structural member and it won't have any bearing on the vehicle's ability to be registered but like Matt says I'd want to know why it's rusting in that channel. Toyotas were always rusty bits of shit maybe as bad or worse than old Falcons but this is a later model treated body so there's probably a reason for that

If there’s no other rust cut it out and repair it .

Grind / sand up the area with course disk 24g, work out the overall area to fix, cut it out and mig a mild steel patch in.
Bit of filler, hibuild prime, and paint, rustproof well behind (may mean drop a section of hood lining).

There are other ways to fix the rust hole, and sometimes it isn't worth going the full cut out and weld up, but needs a close look to see if it's been bodgied up along there by others previously (is the history of the car known ?) and then tailor the best repair method.

Ta mate, just lost my 4wd this week and reminiscing a bit.

Will be looking mid term for a new 'lifetime' 4x4.

Reminding me of both my Toyota FJ60 and Discovery One ownership days Rust it in the gutters and roof of the FJ60 expected, Rust around the Discovery Alpine Roof windows also expected. No big deal, just repair and then 'good to go'!
Some things are just manufacturing faults!
