Pity LCOOL is still down, but I can't find any complaints about oil use on IH8MUD (which has been infiltrated by Aussies recently) or Facebook. Most complaints are about the gearbox clunking in 2nd to 4th and people think the intercoolers are in a stupid, vulnerable spot.

I was thinking similar, apart from Cadogan there is no mention of it anywhere which seems abit strange so it may be only isolated cases or Fox news is on the take from Toyota and has shut it all down :D

I haven’t watch all the clip but isn’t there a Toyota bulletin about it so I would think that’s more evidence of a real issue rather than what’s on some forums
Like with any and all models it takes a year or so and plenty on the road to get a real understanding of the quality and reliability.
There simply isn’t enough of them on the road yet to get a realistic picture as far as I am concerned

Watch the Toyota video Matt . It is mostly about running in the vehicle and heavy use. John Cadogan changed "May use up to" to "uses". He is overlaying his assumptions over another video's hidden meanings ( according to him) without any other facts.

He turns a customer service video into a headline video. Unlike John Cadogan. LOL

For the record, there are about 20,000 on the road in Australia and it has been out for over 2 years. Time goes quickly huh?

I don't know if it is having problems or not but Cadogan's video adds nothing other than ratings for him.

I like him, but its entertainment not education.

I should declare my interaction with Autoexpert I guess. My son was looking for a new hatch 2 months ago.

The shortlist was a Kia, Hyundai, Corolla and Mazda 3 which was at the top of the list. According to Cadogin's youtube I can save Thousands right? So I called.

After putting my short list in the contact us email a nice guy called back and went through his options. Hyundai, Kia and MG. I had no interest in MG and thought Cadogon was against them anyway for being Chinese. I've since seen his videos praising them!

Ok what about the Corolla and Mazda the two favorites, The guy had no interest and said they can't help. He tried to up sell Kia mostly. What a waste of time that was. Look at the videos, with their bias to brands where they can make money by "helping you"

Self Serving bullshit IMHO. We ended up with the Mazda, and even saved "thousands" by negotiating myself.

EDIT name fixed thanks Krumpy

I seem to remember that some of the 200`s had oil usage problems up until they had 50k or so on the clock.
Let me know if I`m wrong.

My first one was early ( Jan 2008) and used about 1l per service interval. There was hell on the forums. Toyota had a free fix of the scavenger pump replacement which lessened it to around 0.5 per service interval. They did change the rings around 2010 as a few people reported that the oil use continued. Toyota offered that to everyone I think, they certainly offered it to me but at 0.5l per 10,000 kms I didn't want the engine out. I think that is fair oil use. I think I topped up my old one on a few Simpson trips, but I'd expect that towing a van. It settled down after about 50,000km to 2/5 of FA

My new ( 2016) one uses about the same. I carry 1l at all times but have never needed it.

What would cause an engine that’s using oil to suddenly get better after 50k kms? Id definitely rather be using a litre per service then having the engine pulled even if it is under warranty

Don't know. I shouldn't have categorised it as suddenly. I would say it just used less over time and it felt properly run in and running really smoothly at about 50K.

My best mate and his brother both have 300 series Saharas, got them early on when they were released after placing order as soon as they were announced.

The best mate's starting getting engine lights and return to dealer messages at about 16k km, still continuing regularly now at 21k km. Runs rough as and gets a shake through the car, also feels down on power. His brother thought he was playing it up until his started doing the same at similar km, both are pissed off at spending that cash and having to take them back to the dealer regularly and Toyota not being able to resolve the issue.

Both have bought numerous vehicles (had 2 200 Saharas each over the years before the 300s) from the same Melbourne Toyota dealer and the head mechanic is now being honest with them and has said it's another DPF issue that Toyota are scrambling to try and resolve. Mechanic fears it may end up another class action like the 2.8s..

Safe to say both are not happy and my best mate has told the dealer as soon as he can get a petrol Tundra in that he'll buy one. Be interesting to see how the issue develops!

Sad to hear of the problems, but there's proof not to buy a new model of any vehicle type i.e. leave it a while to see if there are issues. Will be interested to hear what Toyota does to address the issue/s.

Also VERY interested to see what they're doing with the 70 Series (Aussie release) since the Covid excuse - are they continuing with the V8 or going with the V6 turbo/dual turbo Frankenstein thingy.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see them drop the V8 and go the 6. They make bugger all 70 series globally so you wouldn’t think they would waste an assembly line for a motor that they now only have one model lineup for.

I actually don't think the Prado 2.8 is out of the question for the re-introduction of the 70. (That said, I wouldn't be trading my V8 for one of those any time soon...) They could potentially even go all-in, and introduce a petrol variant also.
