At least Toyota have the decency to burn the oil instead of spilling it all over the ground like Land Rover.
Pity LCOOL is still down, but I can't find any complaints about oil use on IH8MUD (which has been infiltrated by Aussies recently) or Facebook. Most complaints are about the gearbox clunking in 2nd to 4th and people think the intercoolers are in a stupid, vulnerable spot.
Watch the Toyota video Matt . It is mostly about running in the vehicle and heavy use. John Cadogan changed "May use up to" to "uses". He is overlaying his assumptions over another video's hidden meanings ( according to him) without any other facts.I haven’t watch all the clip but isn’t there a Toyota bulletin about it so I would think that’s more evidence of a real issue rather than what’s on some forums
Like with any and all models it takes a year or so and plenty on the road to get a real understanding of the quality and reliability.
There simply isn’t enough of them on the road yet to get a realistic picture as far as I am concerned
I seem to remember that some of the 200`s had oil usage problems up until they had 50k or so on the clock.
Let me know if I`m wrong.
Autoexpert?I should declare my interaction with Carexpert I guess. My son was looking for a new hatch 2 months ago.
The shortlist was a Kia, Hyundai, Corolla and Mazda 3 which was at the top of the list. According to Cadogin's youtube I can save Thousands right? So I called.
After putting my short list in the contact us email a nice guy called back and went through his options. Hyundai, Kia and MG. I had no interest in MG and thought Cadogon was against them anyway for being Chinese. I've since seen his videos praising them!
Ok what about the Corolla and Mazda the two favorites, The guy had no interest and said they can't help. He tried to up sell Kia mostly. What a waste of time that was. Look at the videos, with their bias to brands where they can make money by "helping you"
Self Serving bullshit IMHO. We ended up with the Mazda, and even saved "thousands" by negotiating myself.
Don't know. I shouldn't have categorised it as suddenly. I would say it just used less over time and it felt properly run in and running really smoothly at about 50K.What would cause an engine that’s using oil to suddenly get better after 50k kms? Id definitely rather be using a litre per service then having the engine pulled even if it is under warranty
My best mate and his brother both have 300 series Saharas, got them early on when they were released after placing order as soon as they were announced.
Sad to hear of the problems, but there's proof not to buy a new model of any vehicle type i.e. leave it a while to see if there are issues. Will be interested to hear what Toyota does to address the issue/s.
Also VERY interested to see what they're doing with the 70 Series (Aussie release) since the Covid excuse - are they continuing with the V8 or going with the V6 turbo/dual turbo Frankenstein thingy.
I actually don't think the Prado 2.8 is out of the question for the re-introduction of the 70. (That said, I wouldn't be trading my V8 for one of those any time soon...) They could potentially even go all-in, and introduce a petrol variant also.I wouldn’t be surprised to see them drop the V8 and go the 6. They make bugger all 70 series globally so you wouldn’t think they would waste an assembly line for a motor that they now only have one model lineup for.
