270 degree Awning fitted to a dual cab?

Les PK Ranger

4x4 Earth Contributer
I have the kings 270 awning mounted to my canopy mounted rack with a 3rd loose mount on rear bar on the cab (front mount).

Hey mate, just a heads up to watch a couple of things with that.
I mounted a standard 2.5m long awning like that on my PK Ranger, Rear ARB canopy with roof bars and internal supports, 1.6m long roof rack, which extended out a bit past cab by 4" or so, and a good 2' past front canopy bar.
So I fitted a cab roof bar to mount a front bracket (plus light bar and UHF antenna mount), for a 3rd mount point.

Was well aware how much flex there is between cabin and rear tub, so I made my front one VERY loose, with double nuts done up so you could pretty much turn the nuts by hand when doubled up on each other, and I used a (probably) 6mm thick padding of a hard conveyor rubber between too.

I do (did) a LOT of desert trips, and after maybe 6 or so trips across the Simpson, and all associated roads to & from / other 4wd tracks, corro roads etc, the front one let go in the desert somewhere.
After all the trips done, bolt heads had worn the tracking through on the 2 slots, and simply had nothing left to hold it.

Easy fix, I moved the whole lot back 1/2" and fitted same to complete trip.

After returning home, I took the front awning mount off totally, moved the awning back so it was level with back bumper extreme, and got away with countless more trips and about 800mm overhang from front canopy mount.

I also noticed about same time, the front bar HAD been moving quite a lot, as it had worn through paint to the metal on that side from the flex / movement, even with a loose mount.

Your setup looks great, and I like the 270 awnings . . . think when I eventually get another 4wd I will get one, as long as it suits the vehicle and safe fitment.

Thanks for the heads up. I will definitely keep an eye on that loose mount and will consider reconfiguring the mounts if there is any sign of wear. I’m looking forward to putting this setup to the test to see how it holds up.

for what its worth...finally installed 270 awning on the Hilux dual cab/canopy set up. A little tricky due to the front existing cabin racks being a little low set to the rhino racks installed on the canopy (the forward rack has a shorter mount to the rear mount). The canopy racks were installed on an internal supports (Milford internal Supports https://www.milford.one/loadmax/). Ended up being able to lower the rear mount height by turning the L bracket upside down. This worked well. The 270 awning is mounted to the 2nd and 4th rack. The 3rd rack is not used by the 270 awning. A set of recovery tracks mounted to the 1st and 2nd rack over the cabin. Another 180 awning is on the drivers side. Photos from the backyard after install. Hope they help.
