2018 Mazda bt-50 bump steer?

Hello everyone.

I have a new to me 2018 Bt-50 with just over 45k on the clock. Still under warranty and a beautiful bus.

After owning for a couple of weeks I have noticed what I can only describe as "bump steer"

My previous 2 4x4 was solid axle suzuki jimmy's.

I have been noticing in the Mazda that when I go over large bumps on an angle eg: speed bump that the steering wheel will move left and right quite a bit.

I have booking in for a wheel alignment tomorrow but just wanted to ask other owners if this is normal or a characteristic of the vechicle or if something is wrong.

Been driving me nuts thinking about it haha.

No idea whether the movement in yours is normal but the best way to find out if something is not right is to go to a dealer and test drive another one and see if is the same.
Does yours have a lift or aftermarket anything?

Just walk into a dealer and tell them you are interested in purchasing a BT50, any dealer anywhere will be happy to let you have a test drive of any second hand car they have on the lot.
I wouldn't drive in with yours and ask for a drive to compare.
Depending on what sort of life it has had at 45,000km on standard suspension I would think there might be some wear and tear that could cause your issue, Pedders do a reasonably thorough inspection and report at a reasonable price if you find another one feels different or if you think something could be wrong with yours maybe just get it checked out

When going over bumps as you describe I experience some feed back through the steering wheel. Rack and pinion steering on a IFS vehicle will provide more feed back through the steering than a solid axle vehicle with multiple links connecting everything together.

But if it feels excessive I would get it checked out.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I'm starting to feel that maybe I'm just not used to it and I'm over thinking it. Thanks mate.

Was delayed by a few days bit just got it all done. Was slightly out of camber but not by much. Now that I have gotten used to driving it more it's definitely the feedback through the steering wheel that I'm not used to moving over to IFS. Thanks heaps for your help all. She's driving beautiful!! What a great truck!!!
