Numbers are getting up there now. 34 registered.
C'mon you interstaters let's at least get a few along. There's so much to see between the Turon and where you come from.
QLD - you guys have the entire great dividing range to explore
SA - you guys have the underrated NSW outback
VIC - you guys have the high country, NSW snowies and the Blue Mountains

Looking likely I'll be there, probably with the Pajero for its first decent run.
Have the rego form half filled out, might just finish it now, and if something awkward comes up to muck up plans and I can't make it in the end, will just advise at that time.

Aiming to get there over a day and a bit drive, that is pretty comfy.
18/5 1065km odd day one to probably Cowra, keep the missus happy and check into a motel for the night (2 actually).
Might take her to the Jap Gardens in town next day, and a look around town, the old Jap POW site, etc . . . so another night there, before heading to meet site on Fri am.
Just 225km odd to camp according to Mr Google, should be in by mid to late morning inc short Lithgow extension / detour for final fuel up . . .

Umm, is Lithgow a worthwhile extension over say Capertree for fuel cost wise ?
I don't mind a few small top offs at higher prices here and there, but might be taking on near 100lt before heading north to Capertree and in to camp.
Would we be going through Lithgow anyway to access Newnes before / after if driving there ?

So where are the drives going to be do organisers think ?
Mostly near camp on Turon River, or do we venture to Turon SF, GOS Nat Pk, Glow Worm tunnel, Newnes etc ?

Cheers Andrew, I just had a look at the Petrol Spy app on the phone too . . . should have checked that first !!
I see that one, and yeah prices listed today look same as United in Lithgow 103.7 for ULP 91, so a bit closer to the Capertree turn.
The other United up near Lidsdale also shows the 103.7 pricing so even better again, straight across via Wallerawang.

Looked at Capertree pricing too, but last update was 9 days ago, showing 12cpl more than todays more southerly United outlets, but could be closer today of course.
I'll keep an eye on Capertree Cafe outlet pricing in the lead up anyway, happy to support them if only marginally dearer, might only be $10 more up there which is ok.

Going to be fun looking at some of the tracks on the maps.

Les, why not try Bathurst, a few different stations and its on your way also if you stop at Woolworths and spend $30 you get a 4 cent discount at Woolworths / Caltex.
Then you can go in via Sunny Corner, which might be interesting for you. The other way from there would be via Portland.

Drives will be confirmed closer to the date but at this stage the most likely are:
  • Mt Airly
  • Hill End via Sofala
  • Sunny Corner via the Pinnacle
  • Gardens of Stone
  • Newnes SF
We have leaders for most of these but still need to finalise the last couple. We also need to confirm which trips will run on any particular day. Likely there will be sign up sheets at the event.

Cheers mate, will Google Bathurst for a look, only another 100km or so, so within reach no probs.

Think I talked the missus into the Cowra stay last night though, she'd like the garden there.
But maybe with Richard and a few others getting in there for Wed / Thurs night, we might just stay Cowra the Wed night, visit the garden there until after lunch, then head up to camp getting in by mid to late arvo.

Sunny Corner / Portland options looks interesting all right, even Dark Corner / Palmers Oaky looks possible, but then Hilltop Fire Trail might not be open / not a good solo choice etc, and would likely take an excessive amount of time.
But if plan B goes ahead with Thurs arrival, we'll be wanting to hit camp by reasonable hour I guess and set up with the others, so more than likely the more direct route and fuel up Lidsdale will be the better way for us this time.

Hi Les. Just letting you know that there will be a few in on the Thursday night I believe and myself and SWMBO along with Wang will be there Wednesday night.

Cool mate, as above, might roll up Thurs arvo then, the more camping the better !!

Great mate, looks like a good spread of locations in here.
Me, I've not taken the Pajero (or any manual 4WD) really off road before, so will take it easy, maybe tackle moderate drives and some general touring routes in the area.
Of course some peoples moderate drives might differ to others, so will seek assistance to choose drives once I meet up with you all in there.

will confirm at the meet when people sign up for drives, but to give an indication
  • Mt Airly - Moderate to very difficult depending how far in you go
  • Hill End via Sofala - Easy, touring style
  • Sunny Corner via the Pinnacle - Moderate with a difficult option
  • Gardens of Stone - Moderate with 2 difficult sections
  • Newnes SF - All of the above

lets hope that ( national sparks and wildfires ) aren't going to do a burn around that time,

There's a few warnings now on the Turon NP website, but think they are a fair way from the area, at least one was a burn.

Drives sound all right, some with options to bypass, not a lot of time for drives anyway I guess, Sat might be waiting for some to arrive a while, so maybe Sat arvo, Sun, Mon morning perhaps for drives, so there looks to be plenty on the maps for sure.

Looking forward to it, the Nat Pk webiste shows some nice pics, apparently April is highest rainfall for the park, so we might find some crossings and place should look nice and green hopefully.
