    2 inch lift ln106

I miss the drain out the front of our old place, was handy for testing lol. 245s on 0 offset fit perfectly. Finish flush with the guards, no scrubbing, and don’t slow it down too much. About as tall as you can go legally too. Depends what you want to do, mine was primarily a tourer but more...

Oil Leak - Rear of Engine - Suggestions

First things first, go to super cheap and buy a heap of $2 degreaser. Go to town with it, top of engine, bottom of engine, gearbox, transfer, etc (don’t squirt it in your unis), leave it sit for 20 minutes, good opportunity to flush your chassis while you wait, then gurney where you can (not...

Retirees' trip "of a lifetime" goes wrong

Used to take one everywhere. Not just cross country trips. A lot of farmers keep one handy incase grass/ stubble builds up under vehicles as well. The weed sprayer ones with the stick were the best, could reach into places. This is the sort of thing the industry needs to teach people. Cheap...

Forgot to turn car off, crap load of smoke

Someone else will probably add more detail or correct me but on top of what’s mentioned above, under load the rings expand, stopping oil from building up/ burning onto the bore. When the engine idles for an excessive amount of time oil burns onto the bore, filling/ covering the machine marks and...

Forgot to turn car off, crap load of smoke

I’m not sure. Depends on the condition of the engine, oil etc I guess. If it wasn’t Smokey before and now it is there’s a chance I guess

Forgot to turn car off, crap load of smoke

Not sure on the science behind glazing bores once engines are run in but that’s what it sounds like mate. Start using mineral oil if you’re not already and take it for a few “spirited” drives through some hills, tow a trailer if you have one. Hopefully it cleans itself out

    4wd Marketing gone too far?

I wouldn’t use their products anyway but that’s sealed the deal. If that was my vehicle who ever put it on would be taking it off and cleaning the windscreen or tables etc would be getting turned over at the fulcrum stand. I’m all for a joke but don’t touch other peoples property and as...

Rust Proofing Applicators - Victoria - Searching for recommendations

You’re worrying too much mate, the 76 will be fine. Rattle can the front diff and lanotec the entire underside. You wash it often enough by the sound of it, probably doesn’t even need rust protection.

2020 Toyota Landcruiser 76 series - Underbody Paint washing off!

If it was mine I’d paint it myself. The “technicians” at dealerships these days leave a bit to be desired in my experience. It’s already clean, rub it back gently to get any other loose paint and contaminants off, mask up what you don’t want black and rattle can it yourself. If you leave it to...

    So I bought a Nissan…..

As per the title, was made an offer I couldn’t refuse on the old ln106 and as much as I didn’t want to part with the old girl, the farm had been screaming out for another single cab. I couldn’t justify the $$$ for another cruiser and although we’ve also got another hilux and a prado, IFS just...

New outback armour set up, did I make a mistake plus shudder problem?

Just pull the springs apart and take a leaf out. If you ever decide to put a tray, canopy etc on your can put the leaf back in.

    Which tyres?

Keep the factory rims and just go up to a 245 75 16 LT. That will give you a 120 load rating and is a common size if you ever need to replace one. Since you’re going bigger make sure you buy 5 (don’t forget the spare). Yokohama (have the go15s on 2 of our 3 vehicles at the moment), Maxxis and...

Google maps v CamperX v Wikicamps

I don’t use it for navigation at all, but for trip planning, making sure you don’t miss anything, making sure you don’t stay in a dump of a campsite/ caravan park when there’s a gem just down the road, etc wiki camps is awesome. The updates are brilliant too, can find out road conditions, who’s...

    Tyres for a Prado

LT are a must for anything more than the occasional graded fire trail. You may get away without them but one day you’ll regret not having them. Ive just thrown a set of yoko go15s on our prado after a couple of mates who are notoriously hard on gear recommended them. Long story short I’ll be...

    Century batteries - any good?

I had a good run with century batteries despite a bunch of people telling me they were no good. Withstood a lot of rough roads and heavy winching well past where they should have been discharged to. These days I use supercharge batteries the local tyre and battery bloke stocks with no complaints.

    Oils ain't Oils, Sol

I use penrite gear oils, grease, coolant etc and penrite engine oil in our petrol prado. I find every time I try to use it in our diesels we have increased engine noise, vibration, etc. Gulf westerns another Australian company if you want to shop Australian. They sell a couple of 15w40s in 25...

    Chainsaw sharpeners

Just buy a file. Don’t even take the chain off lol. Sit it on the back of the ute, mark the chain, 4 passes with the file on each then turn it around and do the other side. Make sure you do the same number of strokes or it won’t cut straight.

    Deciding on seat covers

Hmm well I either fit proper sheepskins or black ducks so both my suggestions are out. I’ve got a cheap set of kings canvas covers on a work ute, they’re surprisingly good for $80 - $90. I wouldn’t be too quick to dismiss the sheepskins, genuine sheepskins (like from mortels or similar) is way...
