A snorkel sock is just a pre-filter, so I'd suggest just leave it on until you get home, or remove it if you want after the dirt roads are finished. It won't do any damage as the standard air filter is still in place.

I'm just going to use a cable taped to air hose, and a switch from Jayco. Should be fairly simple. Also the other issue with the thumpers is the screw on valve connector, a clip on valve connector would be much better.

Winch would definitely save calling on others, but also traction boards (maxxtrax) absolute minimum and cheap compared to the cost of rescue vehicle taking time/fuel/wear on equipment and risk.
